I do not understand why this book has so many negative reviews. This is an awesome book. I bought it at Barnes & Nobles (w/ shipping, it was same price as ). I studied in 5 days using this book and passed the exam.Economics is not an easy subject. Economics is basically math and analyzing the economy through all sorts of point of views from cultural aspects to data collection. Unlike math majors, economics majors need to be good at math,logic, science,and writing.I am an economics major. I do not know if that was a key factor in my examination. I actually enjoyed reading the material.Every chapter provides a summary of the material and study questions. The online tests were also a great tool. I personally liked the book. It was to the point. Cut and dry.I guess the other reviewers didn't pass the exam. Don't blame it on the book.
I found the coverage of topics to be insufficient for preparing. Very disappointing compared to other REA products I've used. The online tests were the most helpful part because they help measure understanding of material and are the driver of the 2 stars, otherwise would be 1. You can get access to those tests online without buying this book.
This book was extremely helpful while I was studying for my CLEP Microeconomics Exam! With this book, and the help of the Accelerate University Program, I was able to pass my test in just 8 days! The second exam included in this book was very similar to the actual test. I would highly recommend this study guide to anyone wishing to pass the CLEP Microeconomics Exam!
I did two CLEP exams last summer, and found this book to be sub-par. You should never rely just on one CLEP prep book. I recommend using this as an intro and to definitely build upon it. The best thing about these books is the website with the practice tests and the explanations regarding the correct answer. I was able to pass the exam by starting off with this, then using Collegeboard's official practice exam, and most of all this guy's videos on the subject. [...]
I used the REA CLEP Macroeconomics as my main study guide for the exam and thought it was key to doing well. I was hoping for the same with this book, but was highly disappointed. I found a number of mistakes in the text like equations clearly written incorrectly in table headers and the text describing graphs inconsistent with what is depicted in the figure. After finding mistakes, you start to question the rest of the material. Large paragraphs devoted to describing what a student will learn later in the text is pointless in a "crash course" review text such as this. REA's study guide for Macro was great, but this one was awful.
I am very dissappointed in this review book. I have purchased many other CLEP review books by REA, and they were great, so I didn't even think twice about purchasing this book. It would have been better just to buy the tests by themselves from REA because the book is so confusing and hard to read, that it is difficult to master the material from it. The author doesn't explain things well. It would have been better if there were mini practice drills after a topic to confirm that the material has been understood.
This book was hard to read... Very difficult to understand. True. Microeconomics is not an easy course... and this book did not help.
I ordered this book and got it sent to my ipad. Entered the code at the back of the book for the online connection and it gave me a study guide for the Strategy Smart ACT*. Needless to say I did not get what I was hoping for and am disappointed. Still have the book but doesnt mean much without a way to check yourself.
