Good guide to prescribed burning. The author addressing what you need to know about the practicalities of conducting burns, explaining the different sorts of burning patterns, smoke management and safety concerns. In addition to this, he also talks about liability issues, public relations imperatives and organization of prescribing burning cooperatives. In short, it is a comprehensive reference document. My criticism of the book is something, unfortunately, that the author could not address, and he understands that limitation. All land management is local and the books cannot cover all the possible local permutations. You will need to do a lot on local conditions. I recommend organizations like the Southern Fire Exchange webpage. I cannot speak to all local conditions, but it has good links to resources from my state of Virginia."Conducting Prescribed Fires" is worth reading. Of course, nobody should just go out and set the woods on fire based on the information in this book alone, but it will help you understand what experienced burners are doing and talking about when you get your boots on the ground and learn from them.

Professor Weir covers all the basics of conducting prescribed burns and gives insight to the many aspects and possible errors that can occur. He also covers the legal ramifications and stresses safety at every turn.

Great product! It is well organized and a handy reference. Arrived quickly in great condition.
