My daughter is using this book to prepare for Science Olympiad. It has been extremely helpful to her. It is probably a college text, and she is a high school freshman but it has about 80% of the material she needs to prepare and she can understand most of it.

This text requires absolute focus; it is full of charts, diagrams, etc to explain concepts. Although I have lived next to the ocean in Alaska for more than 40 years, and have been a commercial fisherwoman for 25, this book gave detailed explanations for our Earth; that should be called "Water".

I think it's a pretty good book, but there are a few misses on the biological oceanography chapters!! For example, cyanobacteria are NOT archea, they are bacteria, forams are NOT animals and diatoms are NOT plants. Of course, it isn't a biology text per se, but even the smallest misses can hurt the overall credibility of the book, in fact they have me second guessing anything biology-related that I didn't previously know ... Aside from those little hiccups I think it's a good book; good diagrams/figures, it gets to the point, very informative and easy to understand.

I rented this book for my class, it served its purpose. Some of the text is harder to understand but the book is overall useful.

The book is very good!

nice book
