The oceans cover the majority of the Earth's surface; they influence our climate and provide a valuable source of food to billions of people. However, despite its fundamental impact on our lives, many aspects of the marine environment remain a mystery to us.Marine Ecology: Processes, Systems, and Impacts, Second Edition, offers a carefully balanced and stimulating survey of marine ecology, introducing the key processes and systems from which the marine environment is formed and the issues and challenges that surround its future. Opening with an overview of the major processes and interactions of marine ecology, the book goes on to explore the diverse systems from which the marine environment is composed, from estuaries to seabeds and from the deep sea to polar regions. The final section examines human activities that impact the marine environment--fisheries, aquaculture, pollution, and global warming--before considering measures that can be taken to mitigate their adverse effects on it.Marine Ecology: Processes, Systems, and Impacts is an essential resource for any student wishing to develop a well-balanced, informed understanding of this fascinating subject. The second edition offers enhanced coverage of socioeconomic issues and climate change and new "Hot Topic" text boxes that discuss contemporary research. FEATURES* Places key concepts and issues from a diverse range of marine systems into a real-world context* Carefully structured into well-defined, logical sections that facilitate ease and flexibility of use* Striking full-color illustrations and photographs bring the subject alive* Many detailed case studies enliven the text and add a further level of depth and insight* Key concepts and issues are treated from a global perspective, using examples from around the world* Rich pedagogy highlights and elucidates important information* A Companion Website provides resources for students and instructors

A solid resource. The material here is presented in such a way as to be accessible for a non-biologist like myself. I find returning to the text time after time is a treat.

While the content is good overall, the authors do not alway present the material in a streamlined fashion, and it feels like some of the paragraphs are very redundant. There are also quite a number of editorial mistakes and typos present.

Good delivery but poorly written

The book is outdated and Michel J Kaiser does not do a good job in representing the current status of scientific research.

I found this textbook's writing to be rather unwieldy and its organization lacking.

This book was exactly what I needed and it came just in the right amount of time. This is a great and informative textbook.

The book arrived very fast and in perfect conditions!! This book is very good, talks about every marine regions, from the Coastal Ecossystems to the Polar regions!!! The book is small, light and have many pictures and tables!! I recommend this book, specially for university students!!
