“How do the oceans work?” To help you find the answers, Trujillo and Thurman present in-depth discussions of oceanographic concepts and demystify the science even for non-science students. Their systems approach highlights the relationship between oceanographic phenomena and how those phenomena affect other Earth systems. Scientific information from geology, chemistry, physics, and biology combine to illustrate how each of these disciplines relates to the ocean.

This book taught me a lot about the ocean, but the earth as well. It gives a very solid base from which to understand further chapters. I really enjoyed taking an Oceanography course and it helped me to understand that to be an oceanographer now, the future of that kind of a career lies in studying the very deepest parts of the ocean not easily studied. I am going to keep this book because I feel it deserves a few more reads even though my class is over now. If you buy it make sure to use the online options for test preparation and watch the web videos it helped me very much.

Great book that is both informative and fun to read. Easy to understand and written with a layman's perspective. Great sidebars titled "Students Sometimes Ask" questions and answers. Good pictures and graphs to support the text. Not like other science textbooks...I really enjoyed this book.

I rented this textbook for my oceanography class. The book has a lot of good information and is very descriptive. I was surprised to find a lot of information on the sides of the pages that were linked but not directly related. The book also had a lot of graphs and pictures that helped support data and information. It was definitely a good book that helped a lot throughout the course.

This book was for an Oceanography class and it had plenty of charts, pictures and graphs to help a student understand the concept that has been read as well as experience the application of those concepts. Great book for studying and I had the chance to rent it which made the budget even better.

This book was in good condition, as stated in the description when I bought it. It did come with the CD as stated, and although there was some writing and tearing of the pages, the seller mentioned that there was some damage so all's fair. It was also REALLY inexpensive, something around $20. This was a really great find for such a low price! I recommend this seller. As for the content of the book itself, it was a textbook, just like any other. Nothing much to say there.

Be careful you don't throw away the cellophane wrapping around the book when you receive it, because apparently there's a valuable code on the label that is the only way you can enable the access to the online content, unless you're interested in paying an additional amount for the right. Content is identical to the hardcover textbook, but don't think about trying to enable access to online web content without that special code!

This textbook was bought for my oceans and atmospheres class. The book worked well overall, but was a bit dense in places for reading through (could just be subject matter though). Not to boring of writing, just lots of material to get through. But for an introduction to oceanography it is great, providing a lot of great information.

This book is very interesting to read, it presents information in such as way that you'll can understand without having some one explaining it to you. It was easy to read and had a lot of images to help you understand the concept.
