This Manual is an absolute "must have" for the CP exam preparation. I also purchased The Study Guide. With both, my timeframe is set for September 2014 (4.5 months should be enough to prepare and review). The first thing that I found helpful is assessment of my knowledge in each section. That allows me to see where I need to spend more time (Judgment and Analytical Thinking). Latin and legal terminology are set just fine but it would be helpful to have pronunciation under each word. I got a two-week free trial of Unabridged M-W dictionary online and use my iPhone to record my own spoken terminology. With the advice to spend 2-4 hours 3-4 times a week I can plan accordingly. This manual has less sections, does not include bankruptcy and real estate, unless it is hidden in the other chapters.
Seriously....exam questions answered incorrectly IN THE ANSWERS PROVIDED BY THE BOOK. In the book designed to teach you the exam....this text does not live up to my expectations.
While I believe the information presented in the book gives a good overview of what one can expect to see in the exam, there just seems to be a seething negative tone throughout the book against females, which just doesn't sit well with me. I'm not sure if the author has something against women (even though the author is, in fact, a woman), or it's just my reading it. More times than not, "she" makes mistakes and "he" is in the right. Example: "A limited partner must make the contribution represented in the certificate of limited partnership; and if SHE fails to do so, the contribution maybe enforced against HER or HER estate.""The interviewer who views HERSELF as superior to a client or witness cannot possibly hope to be successful in eliciting full cooperation from that person; HER attitude will come across in a negative way no matter how much SHE tries to hide it."It is for this reason, I've rated the book as three stars. I think if the author plans on making a fifth edition, she should make it more gender neutral, or at least equal in terms of examples.
Great review manual! I used it in one of my paralegal classes to prepare for certification after I graduated. Contains a lot of the material you will need for the test. Good to keep for future reference too.
This manual is a "must-have" to prepare for the newly revised CLA exam. It may be a little pricey but success is worth it.
Great amount of information for this taking the exams. A good review that covers all angles of being a paralegal.
Glad I got this new edition since I needed it to study for the exam again. It looks simpler and easier to study.
This I highly recommend even for writing papers good information, with critical thinking.
