I read through this entire book in preparation for the chemistry SAT II. The book was relatively easy to read and understand. Yet, I do remember finding numerous mistakes in the answer key. Besides that, it did it's job - on the SAT II, I finished with 20 minutes left to check answers.. and got an 800.
This book is fine as a supplement, but by itself is impossible to understand. It was so frustrating to read because it didn't explain things well at all, and there were a lot of distracting typos and inconsistencies. I'm a good student and a great test taker (I got a 770 on the math level I test, an 800 on math level II, and a 750 on the US history), but I got a 480 on this one. I'm pretty disappointed.
This is an excellent review book. It provides excellent review questions, answers and explanations as well as an exhaustive amount of review material. It gives a thorough breakdown of all the topics on the exam and then gives sample questions with in-depth answer explanations. I also found the sample tests to be somewhat difficult, which prepared me very well for the actual exam.After studying with this review guide, I felt very confidant taking the actual subject test, which was a breeze being much easier than the practice tests in this book.Overall this is an excellent review guide and I would recommend it to anyone as a review for the SAT Chem subject test as well as for any chemistry course as it is very comprehensive and well put together.
Very in-depth and covered everything you need to know about the SAT II chemistry. If you are not in AP Chemistry when you are taking the SAT II chemistry, then this book is a must because it is by far the most in-depth. Generally speaking, Barron's is the best for self-study because it is so in-depth.
Decent book,Not as big as the other chemistry books purchasable so it is a bit misleading.Secondly, I bought it slightly used which should have been more like completely used.The answers were all scribbled in pen so I couldn't erase them and the pages were torn and written on.Could only really use it for the info at the beginning and not the practice test...
I have a similar feeling about all Barron's test prep books. They contain all the information you might ever need to know to pass the test, however it is presented in a bland and uninteresting way that makes the book difficult to read in long sittings. The included practice tests are much harder than the real test, which is helpful to know but can be discouraging. There isn't much difference in subject matter between this book and the AP Chemistry book.
Barron's is great â and this Subject Test book helped me get a 780 on Chemistry!Although some subjects in chemistry can be a bit dry, do yourself the favor of closely reading and studying this book cover to cover. It really will help your scores.
This book is a bit lengthy and boring, putting irrelevant information at times. Though it gives a comprehensive review, it is full of errors that can confuse the reader. This book needs major revision and restructuring.
