Honestly, I would use this as a last resort, if you were absolutely done with all the other options. As a teacher, I own all of the SAT II Chemistry prep books, and because a couple of my students who absolutely insisted they NEEDED more practice, I bought this as well.PROS:1. Lots of practice questions, organized as lots of practice testsCONS:1. Some of the questions seems to be word-for-word copies almost of other existing questions. I know that all test banks will be a little iterative and redundant, but this was almost too much. It felt really like they were word for word rip-offs...2. Of the questions he did change, the chemistry part is fine, but the wording is just awkward... in a way that I think College Board would NOT use and testing somewhat odd things...I think in terms of bang for the buck, Princeton probably is my favorite in terms of organization of content, presentation and closeness to the actual test (College Board's official things are good but there are just so few practice tests, really ONE per SAT subject book per subject). This book, to me, really was a last resort. I think my students would have benefited nearly as much if I had just made them retake a test from one of the other books.
This book deserves even more praise than it has been given. This is the only book I studied from for the SAT chemistry, and I did all of the practice tests. On the practice tests, I scored in the high 600s and 700s, and I got an 800 on my first try of the actual test (May, 2016). I owe it to Dr. Jang. The questions were very similarly structured on the real test as they are in the book. This book covers everything that is not already covered in the AP chemistry class (and there is a lot of it - I do not believe the SAT test was adapted to be more similar to the new AP chemistry exam from 2014). If you are willing to invest time and money into this book, you will not regret it. An additional book is completely unnecessary unless you think the extra practice tests will benefit you. This proved to be an effective study method: Scan through the information at the beginning of each chapter, then try out each practice question at the end of the chapter and highlight the ones that you missed or would like to review. As you progress through the book, make concept and vocabulary flashcards. Once you've made it through all the chapters, go back through all of the previously highlighted practice questions. Finally, go through the practice tests and highlight the questions missed. The day before the test, review the highlighted questions in the practice tests.
This book has all of the necessary/important information for those who will be taking the Chemistry SAT subject test. Everything is condensed and I don't even need to flip through my notes since all of the information is already in the book. It allows you to learn the concepts as well as how to apply these concepts. It's amazing and I highly recommend this book to anyone who is going to be taking the test.
Great book! Very helpful!
