I am still shocked I got a 5. In the practice tests I took in class, I was projected for 3 maybe 4. But definitely not a 5.This book cleared some topics for me such as the disk method and all that stuff. I also used the practice questions for differential equations.After I finished the May test, I thought I did poorly. I had skipped almost an entire question on the FRQ (unexpected question), and I was unsure on the MCs as well. But I guess I didn't do all that bad!In addition to using this book, make sure you go on AP central and practice past FRQs. You'll find that they are very similar.
I was having trouble following my teacher so about 5 days before my test I bought this book and just reviewed nonstop. This book helps and does miracles!! I thought I was only going to manage to get a score of 1 on this test but now I have the possibility of obtaining a 4, maybe even a 5!! This book works!!! The practice questions are very helpful along with the step by step process to the answers in the back of the book. The practice tests are very helpful as well. If you believe you need help in AP Calculus AB this book will help you every step of the way to understanding
Having taught calculus for over 20 years, I wanted a quick refresher to update myself for a tutoring job I took on. This book has been great to review topics and provide practice and AP practice. Well worth the money!
Overall, an excellent explanation of many concepts. However, the first practice test at the beginning of the book is not a great reflection of the actual AP exam. Specifically, the 3rd free response question is to be solved without benefit of a calculator. Solving this particular equation requires estimating a square root to a couple of decimal places, then using the result in multiple calculations. This is not something students will be likely to encounter on the actual exam, except in the calculator-allowed section. As the first calculator-prohibited question, it can really throw the students off if they invest too much time in tedious calculations.I teach AP calculus and haven't seen College Board questions that require a huge investment in time for calculations that don't really indicate proficiency in the subject matter.I haven't tried the other practice tests yet but am hopeful that they will more accurately reflect what students can expect to see on test day.
It has a lot of very good material and some not so good. Example: a couple of the exam practice questions required solution methods not taught in Calculus AB. Specifically the shell method for volumes of revolution and integration by parts. I was surprised to see these solution methods used in the answers and explanations section. I haven't reviewed the whole book but came across this in the first practice exam.
I bought this to suppement my students' undersranding and preparation for the AP calc exam. We went through the book in roughly 2 weeks and this book supplied lots of practice tests and questions. So far they are expecting a 4 or 5 on the test.
I got 5 on the AP examthis book helped me a lot in my calculus classI got the highest grade in my class with 99.38%I also did 100+ free responds from 2001 to 2015 versionI gave 4 stars for this, because some of the free responds are way harder than AP exam
Excellent book. Comprehensive, easy to understand. This has everything you need to ace the AP exam, like it says.
