The book was marketed as having online access but it is not an easy task to access. My daughter called the customer service only to be told she had to be signed up for classes before she could have online access.
I just took the PSAT this morning after using this book and some other supplementary materials to study. Compared to the real test, the practice tests in here are much easier. For study tips, this book will give examples of commonly asked question types and how to approach them - which is really at the core of what you need to know. I think this book is good in that respect - a decent reference tool, but it does not have accurate practice tests to help you predict your score.Overall: Would recommend if you're just looking at the "tips" section, but other than that I would shop around.**I did not use the online access nor do I know if it works.Edit: Yep - there was about a 30 point difference between my real score and my practice scores. I would suggest a different book. Lowering my review.
I bought this book for my daughter. She is excited about having the study guide and practice. The book is large so a little intimidating at first glance. Actually very well put together and well broken down with explainations of why it's important to practice and how the test is graded. All sections have instructions for the work to be done as well. Great study guide and testing tool!! Would recommend.
Practice tests are too easy and not comparable to the real PSAT.Don't purchase Kaplan PSAT.Princeton Review and Barrons are much better.
It is useful for me to review my knowledge and not so expensive.The paper is not so good, but for me it is enough to carry all the value content.In my opinion, the value of book includes both content and physical paper or design cover.
Amazingly, they "update" the book every year (mainly so they can increase price) - and there are still typos.In older editions, they answer key gave the correct answer on page 46, question 27.During the update - they changed the answer to a WRONG answer - but did not change the explanation.The vocabulary section is great. Great source of words for flashcardsIt could use another 50 to 100 analogies for students to practice.
While the book is ok and the questions do help with the preparation, the answers for the tests are right behind each test. This makes the book useless for any real testing. It is very easy for the student to get tempted and check for the answers when they encounter a difficult problem. Also, the answers cannot even be removed easily since they are right next to or behind a test page. I wish Kaplan fixes this asap.
This book is helping me study for my PSAT this year. This book is really helpful , and has helped me to understand what I need to study for the most.
