QUICK SUMMARY: Kaplan's ACT exam prep books, including this one, helped my daughter earn the Florida Bright Futures scholarship.BACKGROUND: My high school senior daughter has been test-taking since last year, when she first took both the SAT and ACT. Like her older brother before her, she prefers the ACT over the SAT. On her first try, she didn't score well enough to get the Florida Bright Futures scholarship award, which, for the ACT, requires a composite score of 27 or higher (for home-educated students; for public and private school students, they only need a 26 or higher -- don't ask me why the rules make it harder for homeschooled kids to get a scholarship, as I have no idea).Using the Kaplan-only ACT exam prep books, my daughter continued to raise her score, but it wasn't until her 4th attempt that she hit the magic number 27 she needed to get the Florida Bright Futures scholarship. So, the cost of these exam prep books is well worth it from my perspective -- far cheaper and more convenient than paying someone to tutor your child to take the exam.As a parent, I basically threw the book at my daughter and said, "Here, read this." (Okay, maybe I wasn't that bad, but that's more true than not). Essentially, neither my wife nor I did anything more than just give our daughter the Kaplan books to read, study, practice with, and then we just hoped for the best. My daughter obviously didn't need eight full-length practice exams in this particular book, but the more she looked at ACT problems, the better able she was at recognizing the type of problem, and then solving for it.My daughter mentioned she appreciated the test-taking advice that Kaplan books offer -- the test-taking strategy obviously worked for her, for us.
