This book could have been a three-and-a-half star quality review. The bio review material that makes up a good portion of this review book is nothing special. The text is sometimes sparse, making the review material hard to follow and incomplete. Similarly, the graphics are generally simple and not particularly effective or eye-catching. To be honest, the most helpful aspect of any of the SAT Subject review books are the practice tests (and answers) provided.The SAT Subject Test in Biology E/M has a common core of 60 multiple-choice questions that all students must answer that is followed by 20 specialized questions in either ecological biology (E) or molecular biology (M). You must choose to answer either the E or the M section Subsequently, each test-taker answers 80 out of 100 questions.McGraw-Hill pulls a cheap parlor trick to make it seem like their review book contains four practice tests, compared to the usual two tests found in their competitor's books. It seems that McGraw-Hill finds it acceptable to use questionable methods in order to sell more books and increase profits.This is how they do it. McGraw-Hill takes one 100 question Biology E/M exam and splits it into two 80 question exams by using the same exact set of 60 common core questions and adding onto the end EITHER the 20 question Biology-E section OR the 20 question Biology-M section. They do this with two full-length exams to make 4 bogus exams.Since in fact you end up seeing the same exact 60 questions in "two" of their exams, you will not get the same benefit of taking two authentic exams.
