A Review of Michael Vey 5: Storm of Lightning The book picks up right after the last (4 of 7), with Michael Vey and the Electroclan on the run after the Eglen find their safe house and destroy every trace of it. They then high-tail it to Mexico to find another safe haven. Meanwhile, Taylor’s mother has been arrested on heroin charges, in correlation with her finding and aiding the Electroclan in their quest to destroy the Eglen and prevent any world domination schemes they have up their sleeves. We are also reintroduced to the electric children who side with Hatch and see their relationship decay into one of mistrust and sabotage. The story overall is rather good as a continuation of the series. I enjoyed the Mrs. Ridley subplot, as it shows just how far Hatch will go to get the children. The characters are as fresh as they’ve been previously, with new characters stories unfolding, and old ones arcing to new heights with character development. The scenario they are in is somewhat realistic, but the characters are like real people. When I read a book, I try to imagine it cinematically, and if it is good I can see it. This book would work really well as a film, or even a TV show. When I say the scenario is somewhat realistic, this included the setting. It ranges from large size Idaho town (comparable to a normal small town in any other state, such as Marquette in Michigan) to Mexico suburbia and island nations. While each is a very different setting, I can grasped the culture and tertiary characters associated from location to location. While the science part is obviously fictitious, the attention to detail in explanation on why the abilities surfaced and how they interact with the environment.
