Many editions of John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress only have the first half, which follows the journey of Christian, written c. 1678. They omit the second part, written c. 1684, where Christian's wife, Christiana, follows her husband. This edition, however, has both parts together as a single volume. Moreover, it contains the original illustrations by Frederick Barnard (which were engraved by the Dalziel brothers) and an index of Bible references Bunyan cited. These features allow the modern reader to experience the full weight of this classic allegory. Bunyan began writing this work while imprisoned for not obeying the state church in England. Still, Bunyan considered life's trials to be mild compared to the prospect of eternal separation from God. He reminds us that we are only pilgrims here; our home is elsewhere. To get there, we must mind our step.

"The Pilgrim's Progress" was my favorite book growing up. My grandmother used to read to me from it every night. I recently got the urge to reread John Bunyan's classic, but couldn't find it in the books my dad sent me months earlier, so I naturally turned to . My dad sent me an link to the exact version I had as a youngster, but I learned that there was also a second book to this classic, and I wanted more than just the picture version of the book, so I settled on this version. I'm glad I did; I'm very happy with this purchase. It's hard cover and the design on the front is pretty cool. I can follow and understand the antiquated English, for the most part, and if there's a word that stumps me, I just look it up in the free online dictionary/thesaurus. So far, I'm really getting into the story. I started reading the book the day it arrived and had a hard time putting it down. It's nice that there's a list of the scriptures in the back that are cited in the book and reprints of all the original pictures scattered throughout the book. Although I found a few typos, I still highly recommend this book.
I haven't had a chance to go through this completely ,but so far I love it. It has a nive hard cover-with nice illustrations throughout the book.Sometimes you just want a nicer version of a classic and this is one.
Regardless of your beliefs this was one of the greatest books for me. Perhaps the author's ability to have me search my own faith is what I thought was best? I'm going to read it again, just for the pleasure.
I knew about this book .....my deceased mother read this book when I was a child and spoke a lot about it......it is an interesting read and I am glad I read it too. I did not like the old English though.....but it brought me closer to the memories of my mom.
This version of Pilgrims Progress is too ugly to keep. I bought it because it wasn't expensive, was hard cover, and sounded like it was a good version containing both parts and original illustrations. However, the illustrations are poorly reproduced, and the cover is so ugly I just couldn't keep it. If you care about design and aesthetic, choose a different version.
This classic tale of a man facing life adversity is a wonderful work of fiction. It is about a man named Christian who faces the adversities of life - which are named by the adversity. This is a fabulous classic book for the soul-searching life. More light-hearted than Oswald Chambers but fun like C. S. Lewis fiction. Great for kids and adults.
This copyright of the Pilgrims Progress with the original photos is okay academically it does everything that I wanted it to do however I enjoy the 1700 copyright much better where the scripture is in the margins not in the middle of the sentences so it did what I wanted to do but it was not as enjoyable as the original
If more people read this book the United States would be filled with so much darkness... Serving Jesus Christ with conviction is rare in this country and if that doesn't frighten you... IT SHOULD!
