This was exactly what I was looking for and it was as described. I am very satisfied with the price and the condition. I have been in school for some time and find that 9/10 times I find my books on at a great price. There is not much to say about a used school book except that it is what was described and arrived in a great time period.
I rented this for a college class. I hate how this book is written and organized! It's very hard to find definitions in the text and it feels like the index in index in the back is incomplete. There are good examples and information presented in he text, but having to use this for a college class was just awful.
Renting Intercultural Competence has been a life saver for me. This is the first time I rented a book and I am very happy that I found this option just before the start of class. The book, itself, is a very interesting and well written textbook. Real life examples are given to accent the subjects covered. I feel so much more intelligent because the book lays down a nice foundation in linquistics culture, verbal/nonverbal communication and life.
Some of this information can be dry since it is theories about communication. However, this book is littered with awesome examples of other cultural ways of thinking, common mishaps, and wonderful advice. This information forever changed my view, and now I feel somewhat an expert on intercultural communication. I even posted some of the short stories on Facebook.
This book is long on "for instance" real world examples and short on a more academic approach. If my instructor wasn't lecturing on the chapters, I would be lost.Also, was unable to get this book used..its VERY expensive
Very inspiring and it really made me learn a lot about different cultures.I gain a whole new RESPECT to everyone around the world with their traditions, culture, beliefs, etc.I really recommend this book to everyone even if you don't take a class that require this book or any classes at all. It is always great to learn something new. I really hope everyone will give this book a shot. :)
The book was a bit damaged and marked in but it was fine enough. I began reading the book for a college course. I felt this book was a bit heavy on how you are "supposed to" act in regards towards other cultures with sensitivity. I felt it was becoming overbearing and did not finish the class. I feel not completing the book was my decision based on personal feelings of " forced sensitivity issues".
I have rented this text book planning to send it back at the appointed time. Although not in the best of shape with writing and highlights, I don't really care about that since I am able to read everything that is needful.
