Well, needless to say, I loved this book (I finished it within a day. Oops). I loved the first one and Beastly Bones was a perfect sequel. The book starts off a few months or so after the events of the first and then just dives right on into the mystery. It’s non-stop clues and intrigue with plenty of dry and wicked humor throughout. And death. Lots of death.Abigail continues to be a wonderfully entertaining narrator and she’s quickly becoming one of my favorite literary heroines. While she doesn’t have the same paranormal know-how as Jackaby, she’s quick on the uptake and brings her own helpful insights into the case. She isn’t just some passive ninny- she’s spunky, quick-witted, and is all about proving herself to be more than what society normally expects of gender. Her and Jackaby work well together and their friendly banter is both funny and shows how they are equals in this partnership. ALSO: (sorry if this is a bit of a spoiler buuuuuut.....) Abigail was bold and made a move on Charlie! They kissed. It was adorable. I was grinning like an idiot when I read it. Ritter set the whole thing up beautifully. Ok, I’m done. (AAAHHHH!!! 8D).Jackaby was his usual tactless, maddening, brilliant, blunt and unintentionally funny self. I know he’s compared to Sherlock Holmes a lot, and while he is all about deductive reasoning and trying to be as objective as possible, he’s very much his own character. Ritter did a good job of taking the Sherlockian canon and making it his own and into something new and just as entertaining.I found the mystery in this book to be just as entertaining as the first, though I have to admit I was able to figure out much of it before the big reveal at the end.
