This is well written and a faily complete guide to what is necessary to be a tree trimmer/pruner. It disusses all the aspects of getting in the tree. The only thing I have to say that deters from its presentation is that it is limited because its a book. Pictures of knots are not a good as watching video of how to tie a knot where the camera shows exactly the path of the rope and the completed knot from different angles. Since the advent of youtube almost every aspect of rock climbing and arborist climbing is shown in detail by people wishing to explain things and you get the added benefit of seeing the demonstrated art in reality in practice. The chapters in this book are : Preclimb inspection, Rope installation (throw line, etc.), Entering the tree, Positioning (limb walking, redirects for you), Knots for climbers (Attachment knots-Friction hitches,Mid-line, Bends-end to end tie offs), Sources of info, & Equiptment suppliers. So......wheres the section on RIGGING? Isn't rigging one of the most important aspects of the tree climbing trade? What about a section on ROPE. I for one was a bit dissapointed in that after watching tons of youtube videos I felt like I didn't learn any tips of the trade that I hadn't seen before and that the videos were better. To be fair to Jepson he is obviously quite professional and his info in the second edition was very up to date in a biz that is changing rapidly with new styles and equiptment to make the job safer and more successful.My uncle (77 years old) was the owner of his tree service all his life and he was a spurs and lanyard guy and rope friction thru a natural crotch guy and never got into the rigging pulleys and climbing rope style so things have changed and quickly.
