Ever since I purchased 500 cacti by Ken Preston-Mafham, I have enjoyed learning more on the authors travels in search of unique cacti and succuklent habitats. His journeys through Bolivia and South Africa are well documented as to the differences in environment and the adaptrion of these unique species. As an American it is interesting to see how a Brit searches the treasures of of own SW US. As many of us collectors have some of these species in our house or gardens it is astounding to visualize them in their raw extreme environments. If anyone is interested in the ecology of xerophytes and seeing how their native habitats, I highly recommend this book.
