This is a splendid book and the enthusiasm of the author shines through. No book on cacti can give all the answers, the subject is too vast. The author of this book takes the sensible approach and ensures that the content is well written and informative. The photographs in the book are excellent and show some species that are not normally seen in this type of book, particulary the Asclepiadaceae family. The feeling that the author would like you the reader to know exactly what he knows comes through strongly. There are articles on pests and diseases, grafting, watering and soil mixtures and even some tips on showing your plants. For those people who have a small collection of plants and want to keep them healthy and flowering, without going into too many technicalities, this is the book for you, and excellent value too.
For a beginner the book is OK. The pictures are very nice too. It also gives information on the temperture and conditions to grow cactus. I am happy to have this book in my collection of cactus books. I was happy at the reasonable price of this book too.Louise
Thought the info was probably all here but didn't like that it wasn't clearly presented: the editing (too wordy) and organization of the materials seemed weak. Probably just a bit dated. I recommend Terry Hewitt's "Complete Book of Cacti & Succulents."
This Cacti and Succulents book is showing Step-by-Step to Growing Success. The book has many pretty photos of those plants. The book has more about Cacti than Succulents, maybe 8 to 2 protions of the book.
Great reference book for gardeners -- both backyard and patio. Gives good information on types and how to care for. Every cacti and succulent lover needs this book.
I thought it would be better. More specifications about specific genus instead of general knowledge of cactus care. But eventhough is useful
