This book is the third in a series Timothy Wyllie has produced over 27 years, and both summarises and surpasses its two predecessors: Dolphins, ETs and Angels, and Adventures Among Spiritual Intelligences. The previous two were explorations of the territory he probes, while this is a summation based on three decades of reflection and refining his ideas.The Urantia Book is a tough nut for some people (this reviewer included), so Wyllie's taking it as a departure point requires some patience. And for UB fans, he is an iconoclast who believes the Lucifer Rebellion, which the text describes as the crucial event in earth's history, has ended. He therefore rankles the orthodox. However, The Return of the Rebel Angels covers the author's own spiritual autobiography, and an examination of his conclusions over the years, and he makes allowance for those who look askance at his beliefs and conclusions.The central notion he addresses, drawing on Urantia Book doctrines, is that Earth ("Urantia") became isolated from the rest of the cosmos during a rebellion staged by its spiritual guardians 200,000 years ago. All our subsequent history has been radically change from the expected norms of development as a result. This Lucifer Rebellion has, Wyllie says, been finally reconciled, and we're now in the throes of a very difficult readjustment. While he doesn't hold that December 2012 will see a definitive shift in our fortunes and destiny, he does believe it likely that a profound change will come then or soon after, and we need to be not just braced for it, but open to the liberating result of the crisis of these difficult times.The book's weakness is that he uses his own experiences as much of his primary testimony.
