Please consider before you buy this book that it was published in November 2010. As of today (Feb 13, 2014) it is well over 3 years old, and a good deal of the vital information it contains may be out of date.TCG - the publisher - used to put out a new edition every 2 years, as the information it contains is constantly changing. But I just got off the phone with a customer service representative at TCG who informed me that as of now they are not sure if they are going to publish an updated edition, or switch to some kind of online-only format, or what. In the meantime, unfortunately, you buy this edition at your own risk, knowing that much of its contents could be obsolete.Full disclosure: I have not read this book! I was interested in purchasing it, but had been warned to get only the most recent edition. Discovering that this IS the most recent edition is what led me to call TCG. I no longer intend to buy it.As an alternative, you may want to consider the Dramatists Guild Resource Directory, which is updated annually. I haven't read that one either, but have heard it is worthwhile, and am considering purchasing it. It is also available on .

Using the 2010 edition of this book I found about 30 theaters that would accept the submission of a synopsis and sample pages from my play. It's now about a week later and I've heard from three theaters requesting to see the entire play, including The Public Theater in New York. So I have no complaints about this book.

I purchased this to keep up on entry dates and submission information. It is great. Lots of valuable information and resources for those who want to get in touch with theater organizations and info on personnel. i recommend it to all who need this type of information.

Since TCG hasn't updated this book in years, it serves only one purpose as a starting point for research. Do not trust that the information is correct, because many of the contacts have moved on and are no longer with the theatres. It is usable, however, for getting you to the theatres' websites and researching to whom inquiry materials should be sent. But these days -- again, not corrected in this publication -- many theatres will only accept inquiries from agents or theatre professionals. Many even bluntly say that they're not even interested in playwrights with whom they don't have relationships.

TCG has done a good job of assembling a list of theatres who are looking for new scripts, and their typical submission criteria, time frames, and contact info. It is a well-organized and convenient reference book.

....for knowing when and how to submit plays and musicals to producing entities and for festivals and contests. It might save you time having the info in one place rather than trying to find it all online.

As a playwright myself this book is very helpful to me and was in a very good condition, I am satisfied.

There simply is no other resource that is so inclusive. Yes, there are probably some out of date listings and there are certainly many theaters that do not accept unsolicited text, but both are things the theaters have control over.I recommend this book to playwrights all the time and have worked with many to help them learn how to use it properly. I recommend using the calendar in the back that has opportunities listed by deadline for applying. This is the easiest way to set plan to start the process of submitting. And yes, the odds are very small that this work will turn into a production for you. It takes years and years of effort to get a production at a major theater. This is where you look to begin to take your first steps.
