The highly successful textbook Methods for the Economic Evaluation of Health Care is now available in its third edition. Over the years it has become the standard textbook in the field world-wide. It mirrors the huge expansion of the field of economic evaluation in health care. This new edition builds on the strengths of previous editions being clearly written in a style accessible to a wide readership. Key methodological principles are outlined using a critical appraisal checklist that can be applied to any published study. The methodological features of the basic forms of analysis are then explained in more detail with special emphasis of the latest views on productivity costs, the characterization of uncertainty and the concept of net benefit. The book has been greatly revised and expanded especially concerning analyzing patient-level data and decision-analytic modeling. There is discussion of new methodological approaches, including cost effectiveness acceptability curves, net benefit regression, probalistic sensitivity analysis and value of information analysis. There is an expanded chapter on the use of economic evaluation, including discussion of the use of cost-effectiveness thresholds, equity considerations and the transferability of economic data. This new edition is required for anyone commissioning, undertaking or using economic evaluations in health care, and will be popular with health service professionals, health economists, pharmacists and health care decision makers. It is especially relevant for those taking pharmacoeconomics courses.

As a PhD student, this book is a required text book. I found it provides a concise and sysmatic guide to economic evaluation. The material is rich and surprisingly not dry. The book provides examples, graphs, and exercises with answers right after the problems!! Eventhough most examples in the book are from a universal health care(single payer system) perspective, I believe researchers in the US can still use it as a guide with a little adjustment.

I will restrict my review to Chapter 8 since that is section I have read and used. But suffice it to say that it precisely addressed the problem I was having--finding a clear overview of the methods avaiable for analyzing cost effectiveness using clinic trial data.My own literatrue reveiw and requests for information yeiled inconsistent and conflicting recommendations. The chapter in this book gave a clear and concise description of the current methods, tying together the various apporaches I found. While more details in how to apply the methods would be welcomed, it gives just the right amount of information, without favoring one apporach over the other, to allow the reader to evaluate the options available and decide the best one to persue.

This book provides a comprehensive and impartial overview of economic evaluation methods, providing an analyst with a breadth of options to select when planning an economic evaluation. In addition, the authors provide references for learning more detail about particular methods. I found this to be a very helpful guide, compared to several other similar texts.

It's a very useful and well written book for a reasonable price and I have been looking for it for sometime. It has all the economic evaluation methods for health care programmes including clear examples. I would recommend it for any Health Economist and for Public Health Programme Managers.

Great resource, thorough guide to economic evaluations with extensive bibliography. If you're doing any sort of EE for healthcare, this should be your first go-to book. Well written, too.

Drummond, et al., offer an excellent overview of various methods to evaluate care. I picked up this book while visiting Australia and read most of it on my return flight.

I had the previous edition and this one is renovated and fresh. Drummond is recommended for beginers and experts. The Kindle format is very convenient : )

Thank you, as it went beyond my expectations in its goodness. Please keep it up so that people will have cause to appreciate honesty. Regards.
