This is a plain factual discussion of dioxin. It starts with the history of the compound and covers all the uses up to the time of publishing (1986), not just its use in the American assault on Vietnam, which has gotten the attention of the American public because of the peculiar aura of war and the nation's soldiers. Its use as a herbicide in the USA, testing by regulatory agencies, general toxicity and its carcinogenic quality are covered as such.A good introduction. The author is a scientist educated in biology and has taught microbiology at medical schools (Baylor & NY at Stony Brook), not a journalist.A star off only because someone should have issued a new edition.
