For a book with the "footprint" of a postcard, this guide has a boatload of useful information and truly superb photos. The descriptions are brief but highlight a few interesting facts about each species; all contain basic entries about identification, habitat, range, and life cycles. Each entry is accompanied by a gorgeous full color photo of the butterfly viewed from above and a smaller side view (the latter are so small that their usefulness is somewhat compromised, but they're better than nothing). No photos of the caterpillars.

This book was a gift for my 7 yr old granddaugter. We have lots of butterflies and she loves to try to identify them. The book has awesome color photos. The small pocket size makes it convenient to carry around with you. I have found all of the Audubon books to be very very good investments. Thanks

This is a pocket size paperback book, it describes a different butterfly on each page. Not all butterflies are listed, e.g. the endangered Karner Blue Butterfly is noticably missing (by someone who loves the KBB). The most well known butterflies like the Monarch are listed. It tells the body make up of each type of butterfly. Very enjoyable, and easy read. Good to have as you are hiking around the woods or fields and sight seeing.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to see what butterflies are in the neighborhood. Easy and delightful read. Educational without having to do dusty boring research!

The size makes it very convenient for use while observing. Species pictures on the left hand pages in the upper left corner are most useful when the pages are fanned for quick identification. Information on that particular member of the species is excellent.

Lots of very good pictures of butterfly, but a little bulky for a pocket guide. However, there were pictures of butterflies not found in my other pocket guide.

The images in this book are beautiful. If you love butterflies you will most likely love this. Nice glossy pages with one image per page. Great for teaching children the different types of butterflies they might see.

The pictures are really beautiful and the size is convenient but there are quite a few better books out there if you want information about the life cycle, host plants, and a more detailed description of each butterfly.

Got this little pocket guide for my 9 year old granddaughter. I have tons of butterflies, where I live in Florida, and I take photos of them and she looks them up and then draws me a picture. Great learning tool for both she and me.
