If you are looking for a colorful book that helps you identify the birds of New York City .. this is definitely NOT it. Though it may be technically good and informative it did nothing for actually identifying birds in New York. There is not one single colored page , all the " birds" are very small pencil sketches devoid of identifying marks. After looking at just one page I got bored to tears. This book will end up at the yard sale next week. Unless you're a techno -junkie and are good at just envisioning what birds might look like from primitive micro-sketches and don't actually enjoy going outside for any reason.. this book is worthless. Very disappointed that I spent money on this piece of retentive writing.

I felt the need to review this book even though I didn't buy it through because the only other review is so off-base. This book is NOT a field guide. If you want a field guide, there are tons of options, from the big ones (Sibley and Peterson - plus Audubon, of course), to many other less-known, but well-reviewed books (like Kaufman or Stokes). This book, however, is a guide to where in New York City you can see all those beautiful birds in the actual guide books and for that purpose it is a wonderful resource!
