This book was very well written and an extremely good guide for field identification of wetland and wetland type plants. I wish there were a few more color photographs, but the leaf ID drawings are excellent.
I chose this field guide because of the positive reviews I had seen- it is a great resource for my wetland plants class, especially since it has keys to work with. Because plants are grouped by habitat, it takes a little while to get used to the organization.
I bought this field guide when we moved into a house on the coast of North Carolina. It has been a great resource in identifying and learning about the plants, shrubs, vines, and trees on our waterfront property. We are here episodically, so we don't get a chance to see each plant through all its stages -- for example, I didn't know we had swamp azaleas until we were here one spring and I saw all the pretty pale pink flowers down among the pines, maples, and sweetgums. I immediately went to the guide and found a drawing of the plant along with a description of its habitat and growth habit. I am slowly discovering the wetlands that surround us with help from this good book. Thanks, Ralph W.Tiner!
Excellent guide for keying out wetland plants. The key itself is relatively simple, and the pictures are pretty accurate. The only drawback, which is just inherent in the field, is that identifying particular features on plants and matching them up in the book is somewhat difficult. Better descriptions up front would help this, i.e. simple vs. compound leaves.
As a biologist somewhat new to the Southeastern US, this great reference book met several of my needs, related both to teaching and conducting research. It is great to be able to ID plants, both terrestrial and aquatic, and this book really helps out with the flora occurring in the coastal wetlands. Very nice!
This book was purchased for office and field use. It arrived timely and is a very good reference book.
Good book
Thanks!
