A book for comic lovers and Japanophiles of all ages, Diary of a Tokyo Teen presents a unique look at modern-day Japan through a young woman's eyes.Born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and an American father in 1997, Christine Mari Inzer spent her early years in Japan and relocated to the United States in 2003. The summer before she turned sixteen, she returned to Tokyo, making a solo journey to get reacquainted with her birthplace. Through illustrations, photos, and musings, Inzer documented her journey. In Diary of a Tokyo Teen, Inzer explores the cutting-edge fashions of Tokyo's trendy Harajuku district, eats the best sushi of her life at the renowned Tsukiji fish market, and hunts down geisha in the ancient city of Kyoto. As she shares the trials and pleasures of travel from one end of a trip to the other, Inzer introduces the host of interesting characters she meets and offers a unique—and often hilarious—look at a fascinating country and an engaging tale of one girl rediscovering her roots. **Listed as a 2016 Great Graphic Novel for Teens by the Young Adult Library Services Association**

Not only is this a well-written charming diary/travelogue, but a must read for first time trips to Tokyo. Diary of a Tokyo Teen is a joyful, insightful discovery adventure and perfect for holiday giving, I am sending copies to the Wilson School library in St. Louis, educator friends, and my granddaughter who is a freshman in college.

I really enjoyed this graphic memoir! It is chock full of personality, humorous anecdotes and wit. Whether you've been to Tokyo or not, you will be transported there with Christine's artwork. From a detailed deconstruction of a bowl of ramen to an apt commentary on Japanese fashion, I think she captures not only the city’s culture and charm, but what it's like to be a teen today. Christine's style is thoughtful, personal, and whimsical. I won't give away where her adventures take her, you just need to read it and go on the journey to Japan with her yourself! What an accomplishment for a first time author. I can't wait to see what she does next!

Diary of a Tokyo Teen was an amazing book I was able to enjoy and read with my niece. The humerous book gave us a sense of the Japenesse culture and let us explore the world of teen Christine. We were able to leave our own world and explore geisha's, sushi, and the life as a 16 year old. Christine's story opens the minds of young kids and shows them travel, fun, and adventure is possible even in their own lives.

I bought this book to give to a young teen neighbor for her birthday. Of course I read it first & I'm so glad I did! Christine the author has so much artistic talent, humor, love for her family & honesty about being apprehensive about new experiences. Her writing skills make you feel like you are visiting new places and past familiar sights right along with her in Japan. I enjoyed the author's pictures, illustrations & description of the foods she ate during her trip. A learning exposure for us all! It was nice that Christine tucked some pictures of herself throughout the book to make it even more personal. Traveling through Japan was a true growing experience for the author which made her appreciate her American & Japanese cultures. Young people & adults will thoroughly enjoy this book! CKH

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone. The illustrations are brilliant, and brought me back to my travels to Tokyo. This book is a perfect gift for friends/family who are traveling to Japan, or those who appreciate / want to learn more about Japanese culture.

I also own a copy of "Halfway Home...." and I recommend it, but this book is much more colorful. Ms. Inzer is a very talented artist, and she also has a good sense of humor and a wonderful curiosity.
