I work in a state psychiatric hospital on an adolescent inpatient unit and I run a girl's group every Monday evening. My patients really love these cards! They stimulate conversation and cover a variety of topics but be warned- there are several cards that I removed from the deck because they were about abortion, sexual abuse and pornography. Most, if not all, of my patients have a history of trauma and I just found that those cards were too sensitive for them. Other than that issue, this is a great tool to use either in an individual or group setting.
I am a psychotherapist and I use these kinds of products to help people open up and communicate. These are good questions, but I think they are actually more appropriate for younger kids up to maybe 12-13. The Ungame for Teens is great for the older teens.
Teen Talk In A Jar great Social Skills Product! I have teenager with Asperger's, high functioning Autism, but good for any teenager. We use this at home with our family to talk to our kids. The amazing discussions have had has eliminated the one word responses and really gotten all of us to have really good conversations. There is a family talk version of this too. Sometimes they have sales on their products. Totally recommend this product.
My teens were not receptive to the idea. However, I use them to drive my conversation with them. It has also been very helpful to my fiance who did not have any prior relationship experience with teens and uses this to avoid akward silence or one word answers from my teens.
If you work with teens it is tough to find useful tools. This one is a great social communication tool.
I have a teenage son who has PDD, nos, and Schizophrenia. This item has helped tremendously in teaching my son to have a conversation.
Considering this item is for age 13 & up I expected the topics would be more teen related such as peer pressure, dating, goal setting, sexual issues & other current related teenage issues. What I didn't expect was topics such as the "if you could change the color of snow, what be would it be?" What a rip off!
I use this with my teens in counseling and they love it! It's great for conversation starters and helps them open up.
