This book is simply wonderful. I read it out loud to my mum & children, with voices, it made them smile & laugh. We have airplanes in our garden as well, very informative with the monarch butterfly. A great read for the little ones a book for all ages. The illustrations are beautiful, maps are very interesting, nice learning or an assist book for butterfly gardeners of all ages.
What a wonderful book! I read it to my class while we were learning about pollinators. It's fun, educational, and the kids LOVED the illustrations. It also comes with a great song that kids love. I would encourage any parent or educator to purchase this book.
What a wonderful, lovely book! I was entranced by the story and the beautiful illustrations from the first page. We learn the life cycle of monarch butterflies through the eyes of a little girl named Bonnie and we are as enchanted and excited as she! In addition to the thoroughly enjoyable story and its educational aspects, there are activities, as well as a song and jokes, related to butterflies. This book is a must for every family's library.
A sweet story with scientifically accurate lessons about monarch butterflies. Illustrated with the most gorgeous and enchanting watercolors - look closely for all of the funny little insects. The inclusion of more "traditional" education with pronunciations & photographs in the back of the book is an added bonus. A brilliant and entertaining book that will be enjoyed over and over!!

It is a treasure. It is very informative of the lifecycle and migratory habits of Monarch Butterflies. The maps and accompanying explanations are also very useful. The easy to follow directions for planting a Monarch garden are sure to inspire children to try their own hand at planting one. The book may just motivate children enough to get them away from their computer games andout into nature. Although written for children "Airplanes in the Garden" has a wealth of useful information for adults also
A captivating story that informs while it delights, drawing readers of all ages in through Calder's enchanting text and Quiel's lovely illustrations, evocative splashes of color and whimsy. This superb introduction to the monarch life cycle and conservation -- concluding with migration maps and information, key facts and resources -- encourages both knowledge and imagination and will inspire you to plant your own personal butterfly garden and help protect these extraordinary creatures. Highly recommended.Joan Ariel, Long-time Librarian and Former Library Director, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden
Joan Calder has developed this book for all ages. The approach is to be enjoyed and used for home and education illustrating the science behind the full cycle of the Monarch Butterfly. School systems might adapt this method to enhance the teaching and learning more interesting for students of all ages.
This is a wonderful story that also has education sprinkled throughout about butterflies. I think this would be a must have for all school libraries. Anyone who likes to observe the small details of bug life would enjoy this book. The illustrations by Cathy Quiel are whimsical and marvelous.
