My husband and I aren't particularly knowledgeable about rocks and minerals, but have an interest in them. In our area the beaches tend to be pebbly, and every time we take a beach walk or hike we say things like, "Look at this one! What do you think that is?" We know just enough to identify a few rocks...but certainly not enough.My husband is a bit of a geology buff, but mostly on more of a macro level. We would both like to know more about identifying the rocks and minerals we come across.So, this little book has come in handy. It's sized so we can tuck it in a pocket for one of our hikes.It is very well organized too so we can look up things we come across. The photos are very clear and the accompanying text is well written, too. The photos, especially, have really helped us figure out what we're seeing.There are way too many different types of rocks on our beaches - and to a lesser extent, our hikes through the woods - to identify them all. But this has been an invaluable resource and we'll continue to learn from it!
Have other books by Mr. Lynch and love them all. They're great reference books that you can carry with you on your travels.
A must have book if you live in WA or OR and are a rock collector.
Really like this book.Loaded with pictures. It shows not just the flashy pretty stuff but a wider array of rocks and minerals found in the area with pictures. Includes regular rocks too which is the most valuable tool. I highly recommend it. It's about time there is a field guide like this.
The book shows some of the specimen in a natural state, unpolished, which is helpful in rock hounding.
