This is a great fish guide. It has beautiful color pictures of each fish with a brief description. It also includes information regarding which fish are good for eating. Very easy to follow!
This book is great if you are looking for a book to identify fish in the Gulf of Mexico. Additional information is also given on each fish -- is the fish good to eat-- where to locate the fish --other names for the fish, etc.
If you fish the Gulf of Mexico, you'll love this book. The only reason I didn't give it a fifth star is because I thought the art, however awesome it is, was a tad inaccurate on several species but not enough to mislead identification.
One of the best fish identification and biology books I've used. The superb images by Raver are much better for identification purposes than photographs, which almost always seem to have some obscured diagnostic features. They are not only accurate, but beautiful works of art. The text on each fish is informative, fun to read and useful to me in learning more about the fish that I pursue.
This book is very detailed, and quite interesting to read. I would consider it a must have for most anglers, as I've been fishing on the gulf for many years and still catch a fish from time to time that I'm not quite sure what it is. This book will definitely help you know what you've caught and is laid out in an easy to understand format.
I am an art teacher and use this book as a guide for students when we participate in an art contest that requires students to draw a fish that lives in the Gulf of Mexico. I like that the fish are so beautifully colored and detailed so my students can compare their fish to those of other students and can tell their apart. The book also includes information about every fish - size, food value, etc.I would recommend this book highly to anyone needing information about fish that live in the Gulf of Mexico.
I was looking for a book that displayed pictures of fish I like to fish for. When I received it I was surprised to find habitat, life & feeding information. It is too nice of a book to take on the boat with me. I would be devastated if it were to get ruined. If you want to take it with you buy a second book or make a copy the species of fish you want to fish for.
Excellent identification of fish species! Many fish in the same group, snapper for instance, have a similar appearance. This book is a great resource for determining just what it is you caught! I keep it in a ziplock bag aboard my boat for easy reference!
