I bought htis book for my medical sociology course. I really like it and I decided not to sell the book at the end of the semester. It's a medium sized book, not too heavy and big. I like the topics presented in this book and how they affect society's health as a whole. The book also make me think about things that I don't think are even a problem. For instance, the medicalization of childbirth or assisted reproduction.

Wow. I rented this book because it is required for the sociology class I'm taking this semester and I must say, there are many grammatical/spelling errors in this book! I wonder if she got this book peer reviewed? Was it read by an editor? Shocking! Otherwise, it's easy to understand, so that's a plus.

Weitz gave some very good insight to the social construct of our society. She covered some important issues and answers to many things that I did not know especially in the medical administration area, governmental bodies, and federal and corporate institutional involvements. An easy to understand and informative book.

dated information in this text book needs to be updated. Many grammatical mistakes which you would not expect to find in a college level textbook. This book is very small and yet its retail is $170 this is legalized crime. The author gives a narrow sociological-only perspective on complex topics.

I have been putting taking the class " sociology of health and illness" for about a year now, I assumed that it would be a soul draining piece of boredom.. I took it this semester, This book was required reading. I was amazed at how interesting and informative this topic was! This book was well written and interesting. I was stunned at some of the information contain within. I am a nursing student. I only was interested in understanding the science behind health. After taking this class and reading this book I came to understand that there are many more important aspect of health care that I had been neglecting.

Honestly, its not terrible to read. I prefer text books that have a more structured breakdown, larger margins with definitions and secondary information. The set up of this book made it difficult to relocate specific bits of information for review.

This is the best sociology of health text out there, hands-down. It's easy to read and features excellent, understandable sociological analysis by the author. The reviews here complaining of typos, etc. are mistaken - perhaps it's reader error or poor reading comprehension? This textbook has no errors in it that I have found after teaching it for several years.

Clear and concise information. I ordered this for school, and was discovered I actually liked my book. If you are interested in the social aspects of health care.. buy it!
