Excellent reference for research designs in communication disorders. I am currently a second year grad student and PRAXIS is heavy on everyone's mind. I reviewed this text after taking several practice tests and it helped immensely. Surprisingly, there were many research design questions included on the test when I took the Praxis, and I was very glad that this book went into great detail regarding research in communication sciences. Very informative and easy to follow. Case examples were excellent. Overall, I will say that this book, as well as my prep book, helped me pass the Praxis.
As a graduate student, research can be overwhelming. I found this book to be very clear when describing different ways to implement or perform research. The author is articulate and direct, and provides a sufficient amount of information about the topics. I highly recommend this book. It has been very helpful and I'm sure I will use it as I continue my degree and career as an SLP.
This text offers any reader that deals with research a clear, concise, and organized manner of what is research and its process. It is tailored toward research within the communication disorders realm, however, the information presented would be helpful to someone who is in need of a better understanding of the process and steps behind research in general. The chapters are organized in a way that allow the reader to establish knowledge and make connections. Additionally, the terms, definitions, and examples are all useful and helpful to one's knowledge. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves writing or doing research as well as for those who do not because it truly gives you a better foundation, perspective, and understanding about research.
I am a second year graduate student and a speech language pathology assistant. I was required to write a research proposal this semester, something I have never done before, and I fortunately had this book handy. I do not know what I would have done without it. The chapters were VERY clear and organized, it was not wordy, and went straight to the point every time. I am familiar with each chapter of this text and can honestly say that it genuinely deserves the five stars I am about to give it. Good job Timothy Meline, you should write another book. Thank you for giving me such an awesome reference regarding research. Instead of renting this textbook as most of us "broke" college students tend to do, I bought this book and highly recommend you do the same.
I'm a graduate student who is currently a class research methods class. I like using this book a lot because I feel like the methods and data provide a lot of support for the information it discusses. There were many studies and case examples that really highlighted when a study method or research design was appropriate or would yield better data collection. I would suggest this book for anyone who wants to understand how to design or implement studies in the field of communication sciences.
I am a second year graduate student pursuing my degree as a Speech Language Pathologist. This book was very beneficial in preparing me to write a research proposal. It presents a concise overview of the research process within the field of communication sciences and disorders. The book provides a clear overview for students and clinicians new to research. I highly recommend this book.
As a speech-language pathology graduate student, I would highly recommend this book. I used it as my primary resource when writing a research proposal and it was extremely helpful. Each chapter is broken down and well organized. Plenty of examples, charts, tables, and case studies. Very easy to read and easy to follow as well. I do not have any complaints about this book.
I found this research primer to be VERY useful. I am a current graduate student seeking my master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. This book is very well organized and gives a clear fluent overview to help me better understand what I need to know when conducting research. I would HIGHLY suggest this book to anyone wanting to further expand their knowledge in the field for communication sciences and disorders. :)
