Be careful who you trust, for even the Devil was once an angel. My name is Jemma Blackburn, and I have a secret. I know vampires are real. I watched one murder my father eight months ago, and even though they tried to convince me it didn't happen - that I'd lost touch with reality due to the trauma, I know what I saw was real. Hollow Hills is now the place I call home. It was supposed to be my chance at a normal life. My chance to bury my secret and start over. But everyone around me is keeping their own secrets, whispering lies into my ears like promises, and one of them is about to turn my entire world upside down. I thought I had it all figured out. I thought I had the answers. I thought I knew who I was. The truth is, I didn't even know the half of it. There's a reason these vampires are still after me. There's a reason they will always hunt me. Because I'm not human. I'm the devil they fear and the angel they crave. Only problem is, I don't know it yet. Inception is the enthralling first installment in The Marked series. A YA paranormal romance full of atmosphere, supernatural adventure, and jaw-dropping twists that will keep you guessing until the very last minute.

I really, REALLY want to punch someone in the face right now. That being said, this book is amazing. I was a little thrown off at first by the descriptive verbiage- it seemed a little grandiose to me at the beginning- but soon, the feel of it swept me away into this world of magical and mythical beings mixed with high school drama. The story is well developed and well-written with very few typos (not enough to even blink an eye at, which is rare in self published books). The characters are mysterious, yet believable. There a twists and turns aplenty and I found myself reading ravenously to find out what was going to happen next.Back to the face punching. Oh my dear God in heaven, I never saw that coming. I am usually very, very good at predicting plot twists, but that....that left me screaming expletives that made me glad my kids weren't home. My heart is broken. Like seriously, thousand pieces on the floor broken. I am angry and yes, I know these are fictional characters in a fictional story but I feel very betrayed. And that, my friends, is how you know you've read an excellent book. When hours later, it still affects you and you can't stop thinking about it. Do yourself a favor and don't pass this one up.

Whoa, what a book! I was upset that the second book was gonna come out NEXT YEAR. I was like WHY? This book has the biggest cliffhanger EVER! Oh lord, I hope I'll survive this.Jemma knows vampires are real, but when she confronts one, it's hard for her to understand. Even though her uncle assures that they are real, she fights the idea of it. When she's told that she has special abilities, she's pissed. She wants to be normal. She doesn't want any of this crap. She's also having to figure out who's good and evil. The ones she thinks are good aren't, the bad ones are.. still bad? Man, it's so confusing and I was left with a shocker at the end. I was like wait.... he did WHAT? In this book, there's no black and white, there's so much grey!I can't wait for the second book to clear up all of the questions I got. What a great book! Possibly one of the best vampire/supernatural books I've read so far. I so feel for Jemma. Hope everything will get better for her soon.

4.5 Stars - Original review @ 125Pages.comVampires, Angels and Nephilim oh my. I realized as I was reading Inception that what my life was missing was a new fantastic YA paranormal series. And I found it in Bianca Scardoni’s debut. Jemma witnesses her father’s death at the hands of a vampire. After a brief stint at a mental hospital, ’cause, ya’know vampires don’t exist, she goes to live with her Uncle in Hollow Hills, a creepy little town that hides many secrets. As Jemma navigates her new world, strange things and people surround her. A boy who hates her on site, a boy she craves on site and a mean girl all collide to show her the truth.Bianca Scardoni can weave a tale. Blending the supernatural with teen angst, she crafted a riveting, read it in one sitting, book. The world created was vivid, I could see the fog and feel the chill in the air as I read. The pacing was rapid and never lagged. The characters, oh the characters, they were something special. The interplay between them was special. Each new person introduced enhanced the story. The emotions rode strong in this one. The sorrow, anger and fear were palpable. The plot was fantastic. Never slipping from the rocky path created, it drew me in and then left me in dismay with a giant cliffhanger.Inception is a new series that will resonate with YA Paranormal fans everywhere. Sharp and smart, this is a series to anxiously await the next installment. Bianca Scardoni is an author to watch. If her debut is this good, I have high hopes for the next one.Favorite lines – He didn’t answer. Something in his weary eyes told me he’d given up on wishing a long time ago. Like he had seen and done too much to ever go back to that childlike state of wishing. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I wondered if my own eyes would end up looking that way someday. If I, too, would outgrow my wishes.

Holy wow, absolutely loved this book and with an ending like that, it makes you want to throw your book across the room. Inception is a thrilling young adult book of fantasy, coming into yourself and who you're meant o be, family, friendship, love, and the worst...dark betrayal.I have to admit, in the beginning of this book I cringed at some of the lines and thoughts said by our main character. It was a couple of "I'm going to cover my eyes in shame for you" moments. However, as I kept reading, this story got better and better and I became so engrossed that I couldn't put it down for a second.I have to admit most of the these characters I enjoyed, even the ones I loved to hate. I admit I believe there's still a lot of secrets to uncover about many of our characters but hopefully they will unveil themselves in future books.Throughout the whole story I kept trying to figure out why It was called Inception. I had a heck of a time putting it into place that is until the very end. Everything I thought was Inception was just tiny pieces leading up to the one biggest inceptions that had me reeling with angst.Inception was everything I hoped for, and with a cliffhanger ending like that (and by that I mean the soul-crushing, dream-stomping, mouth hitting the floor, wtf moment) I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! If you're considering giving this one a chance, definitely do!Can be found at Shortie Says
