Mushrooms Of The Northeast: A Simple Guide To Common Mushrooms (Mushroom Guides)
Download Free (EPUB, PDF)

Hundreds of full-color photos with easy-to-understand text make this a great visual guide to learning about more than 400 species of common wild mushrooms found in the Northeast. The species (from Morel Mushrooms to Shelf Mushrooms) are organized by shape, then by color, so you can identify them by their visual characteristics. Plus, with the Top Edibles and Top Toxics sections, you'll begin to learn which are the edible wild mushrooms. The information in the book, written by Teresa Marrone and Walt Sturgeon, is accessible to beginners but useful for even experienced mushroom seekers.

Mushrooms of the Northeast by Teresa Marrone and Walt Sturgeon is an excellent field guide for all mushroom enthusiasts. In this edition the authors convey concise information about mushroom growth characteristics and define some specific features and methods which are used to assist in identifying different genera and species of mushrooms. An important feature of this book is a small section that accentuates the inadvisability of subscribing to "Old Wives Tales" in an attempt to ascertain the edibility of a given species. Additionally, the use of "common names" for the various fungi will assist and delight those fungal foragers who are not familiar with scientific terminology. I particularly like the use of highlighting to advance the important diagnostic aspects of the species shown and that the text and photos are adjacent to each other, thereby allowing one to read the descriptions and instantly glance at the images to obtain a good perception of what the authors are attempting to convey. In summary, this guide contains a wealth of information, is easily carried, and is a must have for all who hunt for wild mushrooms. It's a handy guide and a succinct coverage. Photos limited for identigication. Not for those interested in multiple species of mushrooms.
