Just used this book as a supplemental review for my Tax final. While I'd say a thorough review of E & E is a lot more helpful in helping you learn tax law yourself, this book does help you in constructing an outline and seeing everything in big picture terms. The review questions are a little weak, and I wouldn't use them as indicators of good exam questions. Also always check to make sure provisions are still good law! Even though this book is updated for 2011, it seems that they didn't do an adequate job of editing to reflect what exactly is going on with tax.

I paid no attention during class. Literally none, it was epic. I bought this book toward the end of the semester and used it to construct my outline. It is not helpful as far as cases go, most cases only have a one paragraph analysis. That is the only downside. The organization of the topics is logical and the explanations are clear. I prepared my outline using this book and nothing from class and I got an A. This book is for students who are at a loss and need an explanation, not for students who understand the material and need more practice questions.

Clear and easy to follow explanations. I would recommend this to anyone taxing FIT. However, my course was wider in scope and went into more detail (and more subsections) than are discussed in this book. However, this is a great starting point.

As usual very helpful supplement to put all pieces together. I like how it organizes the big picture of income tax and puts all the various pieces together in a coherent manner. It doesn't go deep into the calculations and details of some code sections, but it's excellent for the overview and solid basic understanding. Definitely helped me a lot when i studies for finals.

As an accountant, I enjoyed learning about tax law using a lawyer's perspective. It definitelyis a different approach than how accounting students are taught. The cases and examples used to explain and illustrate tax law were outstanding.I especially liked how the text explained the rationale and logic behind the various Internal RevenueCode sections. I enjoyed reading the entire text and it definitely improved my understanding of income tax law. This book is definitely worth buying.

I love the Emanuel series. However, it was not as helpful for this particular course. In part, I believe it is because my Professor had a very specific way of teaching the material and wanted a specific application for exam purposes. I am not at all knocking Emanuel's Tax Supplement. It did provide some great explanations for me. Perhaps with a different Professor, this book would have been more applicable.

It gives a very good introduction on the subject for average readers. But it does not provide enough insights and depths for law students in order to pass their finals.

Generally OK, but there are some things the tax code has changed since 2011. If you rely solely on this when you study for your test, you're going to have problems.
