I have never writen a review and this is not meant to be a review, just info for future customers. If you are getting this book for an english class, like myself, the book does not come with an access code for mycomplab. You can purchase the access code, a seperate purchase from the book, on the pearson mycomplab website if you wish.
Most writing textbooks are (ironically) monotonous and dull. "Writing Today," however, is entertaining, easy to read and comprehend, and offers great tips and proper writing practices for a wide range of genres, including blogging and other online publishing platforms. I especially like the sample essays and writings in each chapter illustrating the use of the topic being covered.
I am talking English 120 and this book has been great in a lot of ways. It has all the styles of writing required for this class. It helps you through all the processes of writing a particular style, e.g. argument, profile, etc. From learning how to gather ideas to completing well written paper, this book helps you with each step!There is a section for APA and MLA writing format as well. The subsections help a writer cite all sorts of sources.
I needed this book for my college english class, it is actually a very good book. They explain different forms of writing and have great examples. Also, there is an online writing lab called my writing lab which is very helpful.
Good book for anyone who is taking a college writing and class and doesn't have much experience with writing, or has falling out of the skills needed for proficient college writing. The book is full of examples and pages dedicated to understanding the different formats, which I use regularly for writing my college papers.
I could lie and say I actually read this text for my classes every day, but in all honesty I don't. It has a plethora of great information in it, and I reference it whenever I need help getting a paper going. rather expensive but way cheaper than the campus bookstore
This was the book the college was using and I was able to order it for rent here on for a very good price. This is the second semester we have used to rent school textbooks. The books come fast, we use them all semester, we get a reminder when they are due, then we go to to print out a pre-paid shipping label to send the book back. I will use this service for every textbook they have that I need. No more paying $100+ on school books.
This book is an excellent guide to freshman writing. Its approach is based upon different genres and includes sample student papers that concretize what is found in the text. The breadth of genres covered really helped me to realize how much writing can do, and really allowed me to break from the highly structured styles taught in high school. The layout makes it easy to navigate and interesting to read and the writing is clear and informative. I will be keeping it as a resource long after the semester is over.
