Famous in Love didn't really sound like my kind of read, but since I loved Rebecca Serle's previous two books, When You Were Mine and The Edge of Falling, I thought I'd give this one a try. And although the whole fame-thing isn't my favorite thing to read about, it can work when it's well done (i.e. Open Road Summer), so I thought I might enjoy Famous in Love, too. Sadly, though, this one did not work for me. The story is cliched and underdeveloped, making this a very disappointing read for me.The main problem I had with this story is the romance. In short, there's a love triangle with lots of insta-love - such a great combination. If it had been well-done, Paige living out the same love triangle as her character could have been kind of entertaining. But it's not. Rainer and Jordan have an interesting background, but that's about all they have going for themselves. When Paige arrives on set, she and Rainer are immediately together, just because. They have no chemistry, he has no personality, and we never learn what she sees in him (other than the fact that he's famous). Jordan is a slightly more interesting character, but things between him and Paige also happen instantaneously, with no build-up or chemistry. So no, I did not enjoy the romance. And considering it's the main storyline, that kind of ruined the book for me.The fame-and-glamour aspect could have been interesting, but I found it to be kind of underwhelming. It's not horrible - but it's not really anything new. It didn't make me feel the glamour of this world, so it didn't work as any kind of guilty-pleasure entertainment, either. What's going on at home is what had the most potential, in my opinion.

Ok, confession time. Famous in Love is my first Rebecca Serle book. Now that I’ve fallen in love with her writing and characters, I am kicking myself for waiting this long to discover her work. I’ll be devouring her backlist ASAP. Now that I have my confession out of the way, I’ll get started on my review. :)Famous in Love was so flipping good. I had high hopes for this book and have been excited for it since I picked up a copy at BEA. I wasn’t disappointed. It sucked me in from the prologue because I just HAD TO KNOW which guy she was talking about. I thought I was just in for a good YA romance, but the truth is, Famous in Love was so much more than that. It was about friendship, life and love. It showed how your choices affect your life in ways you might not have even thought possible. This was a great coming of age story.I loved Paige. Even though she was a movie star, she was relatable, real and likable. She was struggling with her newfound fame and all that comes with it. I think that’s what made her so likable to me. She didn’t let it all go to her head. Perhaps her biggest struggle at the beginning is fighting her feelings for her co-star, Rainer. They’re growing close during filming and he has her back off-camera, too. Things get more complicated when their other co-star, bad boy Jordan Wilder, shows up on set. Rainer and Jordan used to be friends, but are now locked in a feud over something that happened the last time they worked together. Paige, of course, gets sucked into it all and tries not to like Jordan because of her loyalty to Rainer. Tries is the key word here. From the minute Jordan stepped foot on set, it was obvious there was a whole lot of chemistry between him and Paige. The more she tried to deny it, the more apparent it was.

Famous in Love is the kind of book I just adore; sweet and fun, allows me to daydream…escape. I don’t know about you, but there have been plenty of times when I have wondered what it would be like to be plucked out of my perfectly ordinary (and wonderful) life and set into a completely different life filled with celebrities, luxury and exotic places.I really enjoyed losing myself in the fantasy of the story of a girl who feels out-of-place and awkward, and watch her get thrust into the glamorous and often times crazy celebrity life. She finds a friend in Rainer, the super-famous and super-swoony young actor and they form an immediate friendship. Rainer can’t help be taken with Paige – he appreciates that she’s down to earth and the fact that she’s unjaded by Hollywood, unassuming and real. Rainer takes her under his wing to support her and help her navigate the new world she finds herself in.Rainer’s character is a real treat, he’s kind, thoughtful, flirty and sweet, but Serle keeps the reader on its toes as she subtly shows us the differences between Rainer and Paige. Rebecca Serle really crafted a compelling parallel between these two and as soon as we get comfortable with that narrative, we’re introduced to Jordan. The resident “bad boy”, who has a complicated history with Rainer and a Hollywood gossip back story that could be more than meets the eye. Jordan is the total opposite of Rainer; he’s private, quiet and keeps to himself. Serle gives us two totally different swoony guys in this book and she made it really hard to pick just one.I’m going to be honest with you, I reallllly wanted to hate the potential of a love triangle in this story.
