I hope I'm not giving too much away when I say that "kill" as in "Kill the Boy Band" is used in both senses, and it explores the scenario: What would you do if your friends kidnapped and held the least popular (think Ringo) member of your favorite boy band hostage? This is more original than the popular: "What would you do if two guys were insanely in love with you, and they both had superpowers?" theme in young adult lit, so I was interested in reading this. This book is quite dark, and there are flaws, but at least the premise is one I have not read about before in this genre.The narrator, who I will call N (not to be snarky, but because she is nameless), is a teen fan of a Brit boy band called "The Ruperts," (so called because the four members all share the first name). The Ruperts formed as the result of a reality TV show and has the requisite members: one talented one, one dim but hunky one, etc. N's popular best friend from school, Erin, is also a fan, though she keeps that side of her secret with everyone but N. They have two other friends/fans, with whom they mostly interact online: Apple, a wealthy Third-World orphan with body issues, and Isabel, who lives to post foul-mouthed tweets and update her website with Ruperts' gossip. When the book opens, the girls have managed to get a room at the NY hotel where the band is staying to perform a concert. The hostage situation happens unexpectedly, and by the end of the evening, Twitter has exploded, and the girls have a rather big problem on their hands.As mentioned, this is a dark read, and the ending is less than happy. N. repeatedly claims that the secret of a boy band's success is that they make fans happy, but these four girls seemed anything but. I enjoyed the running joke of N.
