If you are looking for a unique and inspiring book on leadership which instead of drawing on the usual role models of our day, focuses on the best role model ever for "servant leadership, Jesus Christ, then you will love Todd Gongwer's book, "Lead for God's sake" Lead for God's Sake. Leadership is about inspiring not forcing people to embrace and willingly follow one's vision for whatever organization it is one is attempting to lead. In today's world we tend to divide the secular from the spiritual and as a result, we seem to have somehow lost sight of the fact that we can and should call on God to help provide us with the inspiration, guidance and humility to lead for God's sake, not our own! This book was the most practical application of this principal I have ever read! Set in the hard charging world of competitive athletics it follows the lives of a number of folks as they learn the valuable lesson that when we lead for God's sake our life can change as we change the lives of those around us. Reading this book has been an important part of my own spiritual journey. I highly recommend that you make it part of yours.
If you had 6 months to live, how would you use your time? When you think about it, why don't we live every day with that thought in mind since none of us really know how many days or years we may have? This is a great read that stimulates one to think about our priorities and what's really important in life. It has taken me 63 years of living to grasp these concepts. In one really interesting and readable book, Todd Gongwer has captured the essence of finding purpose and joy in life. Well done.
I read this book toward the end of January, early February - a time in my life that found me overwhelmed in life and underwhelmed in living with purpose. I began reading just to read another book on leadership and found myself in the midst of a book that inspired and challenged my life to live with broader prospective and better aligned purpose. The literary approach the author uses "fictional story" (or was it) to teach "non-fictional" leadership principles. As I read, I began to project myself into the lives of the main characters.I jotted down an excerpt from the book in my journal. The author, Todd Gongwer writes:"Leadership always involves influence which in one way or another flows from the character of an individual, we would be much better served were we to begin our own journey of leadership by defining just what leadership should mean, based on the character we believe is best to display. Live an aligned life! We should not expect to ever lead others to a level of true excellence in leadership without being willing to model that same level of excellence in our own lives. Character influences character!"A must read!
If you enjoy learning new concepts on leadership and being able to apply them in both your personal and work life, then "Lead for God'Sake should be at the top of your read list right now. Todd Gongwer, the author, does a masterful job of bringing the fictional characters to life and uses them in communicating his beliefs on the true definition of a leader. The ending is one that is extremely heart felt. It is a book you will want to read from start to finish and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking to take away some unique ideas that can impact the lives of others at home, at work or in any personal relationship they may have.
A book that will dig deep into your past and heart to truly find out what motivates you to lead people with the passion and purpose that so many people seek and yet don't understand. I promise you will not go unfullied like others books you read. This book has heart and character and is a must have in every leader's collection.
Nice story. That some reviews say "life changing" is puzzling but happy for them if that's the case. I think the story could remind some folks of the importance of putting first things first. These principals are taught from the time one begins Sunday school as a child. If you tell me that a grown man doesn't know he should put his family before work for example, I would disagree. He knows. He has made a choice and then gotten lost. This story could help one remember what's important and perhaps point out to some that priorities are misaligned. If it has a positive impact on some and is life changing for others, wonderful.
"Lead for God Sake"' is a fantastic book for all leaders in business, sports and even clergy. Todd Gongwer has given the perfect tool for leaders and something they can apply to their personal lives and families. This book makes excellent reading for not only leaders, but all people, as everyone has influence over others that we come in contact with every day. Once you start reading you won't want put the book down until you finish it. This book goes straight to the HEART.
This is the greatest leadership book that I have ever read. It helped me analyze what I value as important in my life and made me realize the potential that I have to impact others through meaningful relationships. This book will change your outlook on life and invigorate you to lead the life that you were meant to live.
