I passed the test and the "CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician HIT-001 Authorized Cert Guide" is much better suited for test preparation more closely reflecting intended materials. Although neither teaches the test but instead provide wealth of knowledge, from Healthcare Information Technology Exam Guide for CompTIA Healthcare IT I got general perspective, but at the cost of reading too much volume for too little test related technical content.
I give this book very high marks for topicality, usefulness and usability. The book is appropriate not just for people intending to take the exam, but is a superb resource for anyone who wishes to understand U.S. health care and health IT. The book is comprehensive in scope. The first sections include detailed descriptions of the U.S. health care system's delivery and payment mechanisms. For example, it contains clear and comprehensive discussions of cutting edge models of health care delivery, such as accountable care organizations and medical homes. The explanations of implications of these models on development and use of health IT are especially useful. Further chapters include discussion of factors affecting effective adoption and implementation of HIT including the roles of management and human factors. The sections on regulation, security and privacy are timely, detailed and extremely important, especially in light of constant reports of privacy breaches. There is also a section on how healthcare IT `works', which includes clear and comprehensive descriptions of how information is stored and can be accessed . This section includes multiple diagrams and screen shots which really help make the information clear. Understanding of the way databases are organized and their advantages and limitations is fundamental for people who wish to use databases for research or public health. For people planning on taking the certification test there are several special features including use cases, exam tips, exercises, chapter reviews with question and answer sections, and additional references. In short, this is an extremely valuable resource for all who currently, or plan to work in health care, and especially for those who wish to take the certification exam.
On the mark. Today's IT professionals face a learning curve when it comes to healthcare and the unique industry demands for an HIT career. This book is both complete and well written for a wide variety of audiences from existing IT professionals to healthcare professionals who want to add IT capabilities and credentials.
Well formated resource for preparing for the health IT certifications. Plan to use it to help me prepare for the exams. While the book appears large it is full of valuable practical exams to prepare.
Just finished HIMSS exams and HIT Pro (CP, IM, TR and PW). It's a better content compared to the curriculum designed by ONC
Informative book. Way more information than you need for the CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician Certification. The HIT Pro certification series the book discusses is no longer supported. HIT Pro was superseded in 2013. The book does teach you a lot, however beware of the legal sections. With the major changes in regulations under ARRA, HITECH and etc, some of the legal items are out of date. I still recommend this book if you want to learn. Not a good book if you are relying on it for the HIT-001 certification. The CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician certification exam was not difficult and does not require near the knowledge this book teaches. If you take this exam, make sure to catch up on your A+ skills.
For anyone that wants a really good resource for Health IT, especially those who have gone through the Health IT Workforce Training Program, I highly recommend this resource/book. It's well done and covers the material really well.
No doubt this book is jam-packed with oodles of information. But who likes information that is hard to comprehend? I did the job but I sure wished it was written less poorly. The author has a way of having sentences that are way too long - leading into a paragraph. And this happens often. If you are okay with re-reading constantly to grasp the information, then go for it! Otherwise, I believe this book has great content.
