The Facility Coding Exam Review book is fine. It's not as detailed or authoritative as Faye Brown's ICD-9 book, but Faye Brown is more of a reference than a review. I would give the book itself four stars. I'm giving the product two stars because of the Elsevier Evolve website. The theory is that you will register at the website and then have access to three separate CCS practice exams that are supposedly included as part of the package when you buy the book. In practice, it doesn't work that way. It took me dozens of tries to navigate to the practice exams within the Evolve website (after installing the recommended bloatware). I tried in both Firefox and Explorer. If there is a help file, I can't find it. The inside cover of the book lists a 24/7 technical helpline. Most people understand 24/7 to mean literally all day, every day. Evidently 24/7 has a another, more metaphorical meaning that I wasn't aware of because, when I called the support number at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon, I got a recording stating that the office was closed. After screwing around with browser settings for about an hour I did finally get access. Apparently, you have to turn off some of the security settings that are standard on every browser in the world and then click on the exam link over and over until the test pops up--at least that's what seems to have done it, but who really knows. Ironically, once you're actually in the test, it works flawlessly.

The only real difference from the previous version (which was the CCS review guide), is that it's updated for 2013. The questions are the same. Save your money and buy the AHIMA exam prep book (5th edition ) and the Clinical Coding workout book. I don't like giving all my money to AHIMA, but I also don't like buying a book with the same information and same review questions as the 2009 edition.

Delivery was fast and the book was received in excellent condition. However, as to content, I did not find this book very well written. Some of the bullet points in the chapters were vague, and even the referenced page #s in the Syllabus were incorrect. This book is more like a teacher's lesson plan with points written down followed by sketchy explananations. One has to navigate through the book on one's own, as the quizzes do not reference the location of an answer key (I finally found it at the end of the unit). And the timed Tests mentioned in the Syllabus for Units 1 and 2 are missing with no reference or explanation. When I contacted Elsevier online about this, they responded that those Unit Tests are in the teacher's manual instead--I am trying to gain access online to those. If I had it to do over, I would purchase AHIMA's Study Guide, as I understand it comes with numerous tests on which to practice, And after all, that's the main objective: to see how we handle questions thrown at us, like the ones on AHIMA's CCS Exam itself. And who would know better than AHIMA.

This book is exactly what I was looking for. It is greatly helping me in my studies and toward my goal of obtaining my certification in coding. I recommend it.

Served its purpose for college courses.
