This book does not contain answers to any of the in-text exercises nor to any of the end-of-chapter exercises. If your goal is to study medical coding in a self-reliant manner, forget about this text. Simply stated: this is NOT a student-friendly text by any means. Unless you are formally enrolled in a course in which this is a required text, I would NOT recommend this book. You would have to depend on the teacher for more than just solutions to the exercises in this book.
Very informative and well written. Each chapter ends with excellent practice questions. However, the lack of an answer sheet makes it difficult to know if your understanding of the material is correct. There should be an answer sheet, this would be most helpful for study purposes. If this oversight was rectified, the book would be 5 stars easily. As the book stands now, it is not worth buying. I am returning both the textbook and workbook.
The text is excellent. Very good supplement to the CPT 2011 manual and ICD-09-CM 2012. Answer sheets are supplied when you take an on-line course based on this manual, such as the ones taught by Forsyth Tech. The answer sheets are full of errors, but, still very useful. Essential, in my opinion, if you want to use this text for self-study. Answer sheets also contain answers to work-book exercises. My guess is that the answer sheets are available from the publisher for a fee if you want to do self-study. At a minimum, you could probably pay the fee that an institution pays for the on-line package. Probably cheaper, and better, though, to sign up for an on-line course. The Forsyth Tech bookstore sales person (who sold me my copy) said that the book is probably available from other sources for a lower price than the list price (same as the price). If you buy a used copy, you probably want a "like new" one so that you can be confident that the answers have not already been penciled in. John G. Aiken, phd.p.s. It is also possible that the answer sheets are available for free from the internet archive. At the time of this writing, there is a web site that advertises that it has the answer key, put all it really has is the preface and introduction to the book. That is an indication that the answer key is in the internet archive. I found that site with a google search. You won't get the answer key from me, though. I only have the second (CPT) half of it, anyway. And, I will not be checking further reviews of this book.
Was hardly touched and was in excellent condition and I wasn't expecting that for the price. Was exactly what I wanted.
Am happy with it !
I have to agree with the other posters. This was one of the most challenging books to study with for a very technical subject. I attribute part of me having to retake the class to this darn book.
Wonderful book. Have been out of coding since 1998,and am doing a refresher for ICD-9 CM. Medical Record Technology school--altho. the best--did NOT teach us coding! Clinical practice experiences were less than helpful! We learned on the job in the1980s and 90s with those killer DRGs, and it was sink or swim! Wish I'd had such resources then! I'd never even heard of CPT before my 3rd and 4th jobs (in hospitals). I am also learning ICD-10, but will need more than this book! Thanks a million, tho. Seller! And authors! You are all terrific! .com is amazing!
