I used this book to study and passed. I ended up having to pull from other sources as well, such as quizlet and another book for sell online that has its practice test posted with the answer key and rationales. No questions on laws were on my exam, but not sure if that's customary. All the questions are situational, so whatever is the LRE or the best for the student is usually the correct answer. Overall, this was a good purchase. The online test are exceptional, as you an retake them.
Overall, this is a great book, but like every test prep book, it sometimes misses the mark. The resources provided should be checked out BEFORE you take the exam, as I am sure quite a few of them expand upon topics in the book that are glossed over.Pros:* This was the only study guide I used and I passed my exam on the first try* The online practice test gives you a visual chart of your strengths and weaknesses that is color coded, which really does help you focus on what needs to be studied more in depth.Cons:* The online practice tests and the ones in the book are the same. Don't fall into the trap of believing you improved tremendously when you take both, particularly in a short window of time. Average out the scores of both practice tests to find your average and use that number.* Like many prep books, the practice tests give you a false sense of confidence because the questions are easier. Take time to research many of the glossed over ESE categories and their characteristics thoroughly. There were quite a bit of application/what should you do questions that seem to have no correct. The end result is exactly what I wanted, I received a passing score. Don't let the first few questions on the exam itself shake your confidence!I studied this guide actively for a month prior to the exam, though should have taken an additional month or so to allow for additional research and more thorough prep.
I used this book to study for my Florida Exceptional student test, so I could teach in Florida, by using this great book, and using this book, I passed my test the first time, do what the book says and study the whole book and you will pass the first time.
I liked the book, thought it was set up well, but when I got to the test none of these questions were on it. The test is more about best practice, what is the best answer for the child. It is situational rather than facts like laws. Study how to teach reading and keep in mind best needs for the child and you will pass.
This book is very detailed. I passed my test in the FIRST go round!! However, DO NOT USE THIS BOIK AS YOUR ONLY MEANS OF STUDYING!! It had little to no state statues included!!!
This book is worth every penny. It is not perfect by any means but it definitely gets five stars because it does what it promises to do: Get you ready to pass the test on your first try. However, going back to the "not perfect" mention, the code that came with the book to take the online exams was wrong. Granted the customer service at the publishing company did fix this for me when I sent an email to them but it is still annoying to have gotten the wrong code. Also, the two online exams are the same exams in the book but in a format very similar to how you will be tested in the real thing (the real test is computer based). I would have preferred 4 exams instead of two but I am just bring picky.Another criticism I had with the book is that the practice exam had questions on certain subjects that were not covered in any of the chapters. I found that to be a little weird. However, the questions all have explanations in the back of the book so it does explain what that missing info is. I just thought it was strange it wouldn't be covered in the chapters. At the end of the day though these criticisms don't take away from the fact that if you study this book and literally this book alone, you will pass the test. I had never taken an education class a day in my life and this book was my first and only exposure of ESE. Furthermore, I bought this book 8 weeks prior to my test date. I went over the chapters while simultaneously writing notes on what I was reading. Once I finished the book, I simply went over my notes here and there. About two weeks prior to taking the exam, I only looked at my notes twice (Once about a week and half before the exam and the second time was a few hours before the exam itself). I passed the exam but was a bit nervous. If you study this book consistently at least a hour and half for a few weeks leading up to the exam, a pass is most likely to occur. Conclusion, this book is worth every penny.
Although I did not purchase book from this site, I found the book very helpful. Questions and responses were similar, but not word for word. I focused on just the practicing taking the tests. The two tests mimicked the exam - as while practicing the online tests - I kept saying that if the format of the exam is like this, then I will pass.Took the exam on the 20th August the first time and passed. Must tell you that have I previous knowledge as I have been teaching for a number of years. The material presented for reading and explanation in the text is also very useful as I use it in preparing my written papers too. Material is easy to understand.
