The 2014 CLEP Study Guide comes with 33 practice tests (1 test for each subject). The book does not give any helpful tips. The book does not give explanations to answers.Rather, the book gives you an accurate assessment on how the test will be laid out on testing day.Unlike the SAT which requires much critical thinking, the CLEP will have you answer general questions on what you have memorized from studying (which is relatively easy, so don't be discouraged).SAMPLE QUESTIONS:Western Civilizations:*The British Economist John Maynard Kenynes did which of the following?*The aim of the Soviet Unions First Five-Year Plan was to?Biology*Which part of the flower develops into a fruit? (Sepal, Stigma, Anther, Ovary, Filament)*Excessive sewage can lead to the death of aquatic animals in a lake because sewage pollution promotes what?College Algebra*What is the product of (r^2)(t^1/2)(r^2/3)(t^-3/2)? (Which I will have you know is (r^4/3)/ (t^3/4))*log5ã125 - log2ã2 = ?I would only recommend this study guide to those who are taking more than 4-5 tests. If your taking 1-3 tests, your better off buying individual books that focus specifically on your interests, and that provide more tests to study with.I would also recommend using free online tests that are lurking out there on the web (somewhere).:) Goodluck
This is the best resource for seeing if you're ready for the test and getting a feel for how it is structured, as it is the only guide put out by CLEP.If you're only going to take one CLEP, you should check it out from your library rather than purchasing a copy. You don't need the newest version as they very seldom change the tests. If you're only taking one test you can do a lot of research on that particular CLEP and find out if the test has been recently changed and requires the new book. But if you plan on "testing out" of a large number of courses, it is easier to own your own copy rather than keep renewing it from the library. And if you own it you can mark your answers. (Though it is easier to check your answers from a notebook than flipping back and forth.)CLEP tests are a great way to go if you're needing a few credits and already know the material, and even if you don't, most of them are easy to study for. Some schools/degrees accept a LOT of CLEP credits, they're about $33 a credit depending on how much the proctor charges.A small warning, the name "Study Guide" may be a bit misleading. There aren't any study resources in this book, it is really just a practice test for each CLEP exam they offer. However it is still very valuable and helps you gauge where you are at with the material, how much studying you still need to do and what areas specifically are causing you trouble. Then you can find a ton of free study resources on the internet or library, but again if you're taking more than one CLEP this is well worth purchasing, in fact its the only study material I've purchased and I've taken some tests and am studying to take more.
This book would be good if you actually want to take a lot of CLEP tests and want to get a general overview. Very little space is dedicated to each test, though. I would recommend just the specific books for your tests.
This is probably the best one to study from; however, if you're only taking one test, you can buy the same study guide for the specific subject that you want for only ten bucks from College board rather than buying this whole thing.
I used this along with a website to clep out of English 1. I passed with a high score. I recommend this book but you will also need to study from other sources. you still need a general knowledge of the subject you are testing out of. Overall this is a must buy book.
I have only used this for the government test so far, and the questions in it are extremely similar to the real test. In fact, I think they used some of the same book questions on the actual test. Definitely worth the money to know what to expect.
One of my most favorite study guides yet. It had everything I needed to review and prepare for my exam. The explanations were clear and presented like I had never seen. I understand much more many of the solutions and formulas.I love this book.
I love this book! I've taken 8 CLEP tests so far, and, while I don't use this as my only resource, it's a must for assessing what I've already learned before taking the real test. In my experience, their practice questions have been just as difficult or more so than the test questions, giving me an accurate feel for how much I know, as well as dictating how my final days of studying will go: should I cram all of it, brush up on one or two areas, or start crying and go find myself some chocolate? Although I started out using the copy at my local library, I finally decided to order it because it's more convenient to have it in my home, especially since it's part of the "reference" section and I'm not allowed to take it out of the building. All in all, it's cheap insurance to make sure that I have as good of a grasp on the material as I need... And now that I own it I can move more quickly toward my degree. :)
