This book was recommended to me by my buddy that joined the Air Force last year because he felt like it helped him get the high score he needed to get in (the Air Force being the most exclusive branch and all). My bar isnât quite as high â not really into flying, but I do want to join the Coast Guard, which is usually a score better than 40, so not exactly easy.Iâm pretty decent in English and math so I wasnât too worried about that. What really intimidated me about the ASVAB however is the SCIENCE. I know some basics but the military is SUPER vague about the ASVABâs science section. I mean âgeneralâ science? That could cover anything! In that respect I am sooo glad that my friend recommended this guide. The science section is by far the longest section in the book and covers EVERYTHING â stuff you totally would have forgotten learning about (like meteorology and geology). At the same time, this book doesnât dwell on stuffâ¦no long winded intros or just a huge list of terms. Just, this is what you need to know, and done. The science section is also special â it has practice questions at the end of each section, which is helpful because all that science can feel straight up daunting. The other sections shouldnât be discounted either. The AFQT score sections were helpful but I feel like that stuff is pretty basic (so is science I guess but like I said, not a strength!) so it was the other sections that helped relax me. Stuff like automotive and shop and mechanics that I really knew nothing about that I know I will need in the Coast Guard.I felt well prepared in science and those other random thing as a result of this book when I took the exam. My AFQT ended up being a 58. Not bad at ALL!
This 2016 ASVAB study guide gives you a info and then questions. Unlike some of the other study guides it doesn't go through tons of information that you have to attempt to memorize. It's broken down to just straight-up questions like you would find on the test. The beginning of the book you get a short introduction and then it moves on to chapter one.Chapter one is all about general science. It covers general science. Some science is scientific reasoning, biology, metabolism comma classification of organizations, animals, plants, ecology, physiology, genetics,, the circulatory system, physics, astronomy, and much more.Chapter 2 is Auto & Shop . Automotive covers everything from checking the air pressure in your car tires to which part of your engine is responsible for converting linear motion of the combustion expansion into rotational power. Then it moves on to shop. Shock covers everything from thread count in Pitch to which grit of sandpaper will remove material the fastestChapter 3 is electrical information. This chapter covers everything from light bulbs two wires to wire.Chapter 4 is mechanical comprehension- this chapter covers Newton's law of motion, levers and more.Chapter 6 is word knowledge, this covers prefix root suffix figurative language and more.Chapter 7 is paragraph comprehensionChapter 8 is a rhythmic reasoningChapter 9 is mathematics knowledgeChapter 10 is a full practice testConclusion- I have two teenagers in high school who both want to join different branches of the military and this book is very helpful so that we don't waste a bunch of time studying things that aren't going to be on the test. Unlike some of the other books this book breaks it down to exactly what they need to know and then follows up with questions. At the back of the book is a practice test so that you can see exactly where you stand on taking the ASVAB. Once you complete this practice test you will know where you can go back into the book and figure out where you need to study more. The language of the book was easy to understand and it wasn't overwhelmingly long.Disclaimer- I received this product for free / or discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review
This book is the best all around study guide for the ASVAB and is a must buy for anyone who needs a great tool to prepare for the ASVAB test. This is a no-bs study guide which focuses on the information you NEED, not information that is unnecessary. Its is designed to help you get the highest AFQT score you can with its content. The introduction of the book includes information about the test itself; how it works, what it includes, and how the AFQT applies to your particular field. The book has 10 chapters; a chapter for every section of the test. The first four are the most important as they are usedd to calculate your AFQT. The last chapter is a full practice test of the ASVAB. At the end of each chapter, there is a small review section called "Practice Drill", which includes multiple choice type questions in about that particular chapter, and has the answers at the bottom. Each chapter goes in depth on the topic and clearly explains it, sometimes using diagrams and pictures. There also is a page that has an offer for a free "Stress to Success" DVD from Trivium.Overall, this is a must have for anyone who wants the best score possible on this test, and I highly recommend it!
