I haven't taken the Auditing and Attestation portion of the exam yet, but I suspect Wiley is erring on the side of too much information. If you actually read all of the recommended additional materials, I'm not sure you'd ever get to the test! That said, the book itself is well organized, clear explanations and plenty of good examples and problems to work through. I am actually learning more with this book that the text book I used in a class. I'm giving it 4 stars because I don't care for the tissue paper pages. I know this keeps the cost down. Wait, strike that, given the cost, it could have been printed on a slightly better paper.Just a side note, if you are planning to do self-study for the CPA exam, you do need to be disciplined about putting together a study plan and sticking to it. Wiley does a good job of helping you figure out one that you can do. If you need the extra push, sign up for a class. It's important to know the material, not just be familiar with it.
I got a 77 on FAR, my first part of the CPA, thanks to this book and the Wiley Test Bank. There are tons of multiple choice questions, and they are ordered sequentially, so the next problem builds upon the previous one. Noticeable typos and errors though.4/5/14: Just to elaborate on my process, I spent about 3-4 weeks reading the text (3 hours everyday, 6 on weekends). I didn't take government accounting, or not for profit, but I read NFP first since it was small. Government was so much memorization. I didn't really grasp too much of it, but I tried to study. Got 70-80% on Wiley Test Bank for everything, just 40% on government though. Be deligent, you can save thousands :)
This study guide is great! Focuses on key areas that are heavily tested on the exam. Lots of multiple choice questions and simulations so you can practice. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because some of the simulations are not explained clearly and create some confusion. Also it took me some time to get used to the way that the topics are organized but that's just me. Overall, this is great preparation for the exam and it's super cheap compared to other books that I've bought. So study hard & practice, practice, practice! Good luck everyone!
This book is perfectly fine as a supplement for the paperback, but not as a sole source for studying. Pretty much all of the tables are not formatted correctly and some of the line breaks are incorrect, making this a hard read on a small screen. It is OK on anything the size of a note or bigger.I use this to study on the bus during my commute, if I'm waiting somewhere, before going to bed etc. The ebook is also easier for MCQs because you can do one question at a time and cover your screen so you dont see other answers. That's harder to do with the full size paperback. Also, I won't be trying to study information in table form on the bus anyway.The paperback is still necessary. The $40 eBook has the same issues. This is a legitimate copy.As a supplement 5 stars. As a primary study source one star (as noted from other review). Three overall sounds good.
Using this book and the test bank, I got a 93 (and that's with a full time day job)! As long as you buckle down and focus, I am proof it doesn't take an expensive class to pass! Now I'm onto FAR with they July 2014 edition of Wiley's study guide and I have great confidence it'll do the job when I put in the time.
I was going through the sections of this book and noticed that some of the content seemed to be missing or out of order (mostly out of order from what I could tell) which makes studying for an already challenging exam even more challenging. Don't waste your money on the eBook. Spring for the paperback. Otherwise, you're in for loads of frustration.
Been using Wiley for all my CPA study prepare. I like the book as it really helps me work over the problems without having to stare at the computer screen all day.The material is very in depth and detailed.
I recommend this book to anyone who learns through reading. I read most of the book and did the multiple choice questions after each chapter plus some of the simulations. For me, this book was a great low price alternative to pass the FAR part of the CPA exam!!
