This is an extremely good reference book. It's small enough to carry and full of those little items that we need to refresh on regularly. I'm an electrical maintenance supervisor for an international company and everyone in my department has one. I also get them for our engineering staff.
If you are an Electrician, Electrical engineer, if you perform Plant Maintenance, if you install new equipment, overhaul old equipment, or if you do ANYTHING that involved electrical energy, you need to have a copy of this book in your possession. The charts, tables, illustrations and examples in this booklet are so vital to the electrical world, that this should be a mandatory purchase for anyone that works on wires, period.What more can be said? Not only does this book have all the latest requirements of the NEC, but it also contains hugely valuable conversion tables, info on First Aid, pulleys, Pipe bending, fractions, equations, and basic safety requirements. I have always had an Ugly's book in my toolbag. Invariably, it gets used so much, that the pages are worn, dog-eared, and dirty that when the next edition comes out, I'm first in line to buy it.
Have been an apprentice electrician and worked in the field. When in a classroom, this book is great for refreshing your memory on a formula or to get the right formula for making the correct bend in a piece of conduit. No matter how experienced one is, it is always nice to have a small reference item such as this book. I know several Master Electricians that swear by this book.
"Ugly's Electrical References" is a great reference. As an electrical engineer at a plant, I often need to go through the various conduit tables. It includes various subjects from 3-phase AC motor wiring configurations, all the way to how to find the voltage in a circuit. It includes many important tables that any electrical engineer or electrician would need. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a small, cheap, and useful version of the NEC and more.
We have designed and contracted electrical work in residential, commercial, and industrial applications for years, and this handy reference was absolutely indispensible - physically tough, authoritatively reliable, and a quick cut to the facts we needed to know or verify. It covered many crucial subjects in our day-to-day applications, notably among them for us - ampacity, different aspects of fill, full-load currents, etc. Even now, in our full-time house design work, UGLY'S is still a frequently used reference in our library.
I have the hard copy... Love it.Thought the digital would be nice to have when I'm not near my tools.First problem is, the tables and charts are so small that they can't be read.Second is, They can't be zoomed in on or enlarged.I just wasted 10 bucks. Don't be like me.
This is not really for students; it's for working electricians that pretty much have the theory and knowledge but need a reference for the details, sizes and the esoteric knowledge that is not used every day. A bit chaotic in presentation but most of the required information is there.
I'm a civil/environmental/chemical engineer occasionally involved with electrical and controls projects. I've found this book to be very valuable. It is one of the three things I touch most frequently (Ugly's, PocketRef and my handheld calculator).
