The book itself is just OK. I personally wouldn't use it except it is a required textbook for collage. I bought the Kindle Edition, which junk. There is no Table of Contents or Index for research in my class. The Kindle Edition is totally worthless in my opinion. I was able to pick up a used paperback copy for dirt cheap, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to complete my class with the Kindle version.
If you are new to research and trying to understand what makes a "good" study, get this book! From the simple to use step-by-step analysis of research to the simple to understand discussions, this is a definite must read for the novice researcher! It lays out (in simple terms) the components of research and how to promote your own understanding of research. Great book!
Deciding to get your Masters Degree at an advanced age has its drawbacks. #1 You have to learn new stuff. This includes how to do research. Don't worry, if you brain has rusted shut. This book will help you get it all moving again. Well written and easy to understand. I have a great teacher and we use this book as well as Research Design by John W. Creswell. I think the two work well together in helping me understand how to look at the world through the academic eye of research.
I have read many research books, while this is a great introductory book, it is not one that I would generally recommend for higher level courses. I would say it would serve best for undergraduate or introductory master level courses. His other books are much better,
This might make a perfect introduction to research, but as someone who has taken research courses, completed an undergrad thesis, and is working on a master's thesis, I found it very uninformative. Even for the novice, I dare say the authors could make this work far more concise; way too many words used to say simple things and far too much repetition of simple ideas.
This text was bought for a graduate course in Educational Research and Design. The text was very good for the beginning reader of academic and scientific research. As someone who had had a couple semesters in which a veritable plethora of research was consumed, it was a little bit under my level. It was also written with a rather condescending tone.In all, it was not entirely useless, but I struggled a lot with the conversational writing style. It looked like I was not part of its intended demographic.
This book raised several good points about studying research and evaluating it. I gleaned several good ideas from it. I think in the future it will be a good reference for me.
A good text, however at times I found myself googling certain concepts to get a different perspective in order to get a fuller understanding.
