Reinforcing basic concepts with everyday, easy-to-grasp examples, this highly regarded volume remains the standard introduction to meteorology and the atmosphere – components, problems, and applications. The Eleventh Edition retains hallmark Tarbuck/Lutgens features: a friendly, largely non-technical narrative, timely coverage of recent atmospheric events, and carefully crafted artwork by leading science illustrator Dennis Tasa. The authors continue to provide current reports, including discussion and photos of “Super Tuesday” (the day of many 2008 presidential primaries) and the tornado outbreak in 24 states. The chapter on climate changeis updated to includethe findings presented in the fourth assessment of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The book's Companion Website is fully updated.

The book is interesting and helpful. BUT,... buying it used was a problem, because I had to purchase the Student Access Kit separatly for around 23.00 dollars. If you buy it new, it comes with the book because you have the reciept and this allows you to use the website to test yourself and much more. Before buying it used, ask if the text comes with the Access Kit.

This book is what it promises. However, there are no descriptions of specific cloud forms like cumulus cappillatus etc. It will not help you learn to be a better weather forecaster when out hiking etc. This book is truly just a general guide to the atmosphere, probably used for 101 college level courses.

This book is very detailed about how the atmosphere works without being too technical for a beginners class in meteorology. It has colored pictures which explains processes thoroughly and it is very up to date with current weather phenomenon.

Got me through another semester of school and anything that does that is a lifesaver:) It effectively covers everything i needed to know and now its a great price! Its full of all the information contained in the tests!

As one reviewer has already noted, if you're going to buy the book used then double check with the seller to see if an access code for the online learning site comes with the book. If the book doesn't have an access code then you'll have to pay a little extra (my class was $30.00). I bought the book used for $9.00 and had the shipping expedited, so I payed a total of $15.00 for the book. I guess I got lucky because my book came with an access code. I didn't ask the shipper before buying because I fully expected to have to pay for online access. Even if you have to buy the access code you'll spend less than half the price of buying a new book.

One of the best books I've read about weather!! Easy to read and understand while still getting into the science of weather and explaining how and why it does what it does. DEFINITELY recommend it and we'll worth the money!

Great book, for an introduction meterology class, the online text it comes with too is great so you can test yourself before a test! I recommend it 100%!

This is a college textbook, but it is easy to follow and understand. If you want to learn more about the weather and the atmosphere, this is a good place to start, and might be all you need.
